Trading in derivates on the capital market

Abstract:

Kapitálový trh přitahuje zájem emitentů investičních nástrojů a investorů po celá staletí. Poptávka a nabídka po investičních nástrojích se soustřeďuje na burzovním trhu. Rozvoj mezinárodního obchodu a finančních trhů vedl od sedmdesátých let 20. století k vývoji finančních derivátů. Podstatou derivátů jsou kontrakty založené na odkladu realizace kontraktu v času. Tyto kontrakty mohou být sjednávány za účelem zajištění, spekulace nebo arbitráže. Mezi základní druhy finančních derivátů patří forwardy, futures, swapy a opce. Futures a opce označujeme jako burzovní deriváty se standardizovanými podmínkami kontraktů. Forwardy a swapy jsou kontrakty nestandardizovanými, obchodují se na mimoburzovních trzích („přes přepážku“ - over the counter market – OTC). V současných podmínkách na českém kapitálovém trhu se obchodují futures na Burze cenných papírů Praha, futures a opce u nebankovních obchodníků s cennými papíry a forwardy, swapy a opce jsou součástí produktového portfolia bank. Obchodování s deriváty je možno zefektivnit nejen znalostí o výhodách a nevýhodách jednotlivých druhů derivátů, ale také například využíváním příkazů k omezení vzniku možného rizika při obchodování nebo například využíváním investičního nebo právního poradenství.

Abstract:

The capital market has been attracting issuers of investment tools and investors over centuries. Demand for and supply of investment tools concentrate on the securities market. Since the 1920s, the development of international trade and financial markets has lead to the evolution of financial derivatives. The fundamentals of derivatives are contracts based on a deferred realization of a contract in time. These contracts may be negotiated for the purpose of hedging, speculation or arbitrage. Primary types of financial derivatives consist of forwards, futures, swaps and options. We understand futures and options as stock-exchange derivatives with standardized conditions of contracts. Forwards and swaps are non-standardized; they are traded in over the counter markets – OTC. Under the current circumstances on the Czech capital market, futures are traded on the Prague Stock Exchange; futures and options are traded by non-banking securities traders; trading in forwards, swaps and options is part of the banking product portfolio. Trading in derivatives may become more efficient if you know the advantages and disadvantages of individual types of derivatives. However, when dealing in derivatives, you may use stop-loss orders or make use of investment or legal consultancy.
