ELEMENTARY MUSICAL THEORY FOR PIANISTS

Abstract:

Magisterská práce na téma „Elementární hudební nauka pro klavíristy“ se zabývá výukou základů hudební teorie pro žáky nejnižších ročníků ZUŠ, zejména PHV a prvního ročníku se zaměřením na pianisty. Hlavním cílem je vytvořit co nejpřitažlivější a zároveň nejefektivnější systém výuky základních teoretických poznatků, pojmů a jejich uvedení do praxe. Největší důraz je kladen na rychlou a kvalitní výuku not. Práce se snaží stavět na principu hry a využívá přirozenou dětskou tendenci objevovat vše nové a vypořádat se kreativně s problémy, které se jim postaví do cesty. Mezi další využívané principy patří zejména názornost postavená do souvislosti s osobní zkušeností dítěte a také s principem emocionálnosti, který – jak známo – pomáhá lepšímu zapamatování probírané látky. Všechny teoretické poznatky jsou uváděny do jednotné soustavy a vztahy mezi nimi tvoří často jednolitý ekosystém tak, aby se teorie dávala od začátku do bezprostřední souvislosti s praxí. Metodologicky stojí práce na principu komparace často užívaných publikací, metodik, odborných materiálů či ústně předávaných zkušeností starších učitelů s vlastními poznatky autorky této práce. Množství ilustrací (z nichž většinu tvoří autorkou inspirované originální kresby) zde není doplňkem, nýbrž v mnoha případech jádrem práce, k nimž jsou dopsány texty jako vysvětlivky či návod na jejich využití v praxi. Nechybí ani bohatý poznámkový aparát a množství odkazů na literaturu i prameny. Práce se dělí na dvě základní kapitoly: Zápis času v hudbě a Učíme se noty. Jim podřazeny jsou dílčí podkapitoly, které se zaobírají jednotlivými užšími tématy. Za účelem začlenění do kontextu existující literatury oboru je na konci zařazen nejen seznam literatury ale také podrobný soupis použitých obrázků. Typickým čtenářem práce by měl být pedagog hudební nauky nebo i hlavního oboru klavír, který může tento text využít jako doplněk ostatních moderních metodik či zdroj nových nápadů, použitelných přímo ve výukové praxi.

Abstract:

“Elementary Music Theory for Pianists” focuses on providing guidance to the youngest piano pupils in areas other than physical piano playing per se. The means this Thesis concerns are sensory- and language-based approaches put jointly in a teaching system which should aid the pupils in grasping the meaning and utilization of baseline concepts in notation. The method relies heavily on gamifying the learning process. Young learners can often be cajoled into learning and dealing with issues not encountered previously when their natural curiosity is triggered. Sensory engagement is utilized to the utmost extent to maximize the uniqueness of the learning experience and increase the retention of the newly acquired knowledge or skill. What is more, narration has proven to be a major driver of both learning and curiosity. Integrating the concepts the teacher wishes the pupil to assimilate into anecdotes or other formats using long-proven memorization tools is of the utmost importance. The Thesis uses standard and common academic means when dealing with its sources, be it comparison of and with various textbooks or teaching methods, papers and textbooks on the subject of music theory, oral recounting of practical experience of various teachers as well as the Author’s. The visual aids and supplementary pictures introduced in the Author’s method are, by and large the Author’s independent creations, albeit not in every single case. There are three major parts of the Thesis. The first one concerns the pupil’s familiarization with notation and their ability to read the score effectively. The middle section deals with regard to how individual elements are connected and combined in the score. The last one strives to provide a forward-oriented approach to learning and teaching music theory for young pianists. The method presented by the Author is by no means a stand-alone monolith. Therefore, it is only natural that the Thesis provides the reader with tools organizing its contents and adopting it into other concepts in music theory teaching. The first and foremost aim of the Thesis is to give the reader new means to try out and potentially incorporate into their own teaching experience and practice. It is aimed at all teachers who encounter the youngest learners of music theory and it is the Author’s hope that it will provide them with stimulating and engaging ways to help children understand music theory better and implement this knowledge into their own musical experience.
