The role of a teacher and a pupil in the English lesson at schools inspired by Montessori principles

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vztahy učitelů a žáků 3. tříd ve výuce anglického jazyka na tradičních základních školách a Montessori školách nebo školách inspirovaných Montessori prvky. Cílem práce je zjistit, jak se tento typ vztahu v těchto školách liší, popř. jakým způsobem je v nich koncipována samotná výuka. Jako metodu jsem zvolila observaci ve čtyřech státních základních školách a ve čtyřech Montessori základních školách nebo základních školách inspirovaných Montessori prvky. Pracuji s výsledky dotazníků, jež mi vyplnili jak vyučující, tak žáci daných škol. Výsledky průzkumu ukázaly, že výuka ve státních školách probíhá většinou stylem frontální výuky, avšak výsledky průzkumu Montessori zařízení ukázaly, že výuka a vztahy zde probíhají jinak, než by podle Montessori principů probíhat měly - namísto od otevřené výuky jsem ve většině pozorovaných škol vypozorovala frontální výuku, ze které se také odvíjel autoritativní postoj učitele.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is focusing on the relationships between teachers and 3rd grade students in the English language lessons in the traditional state primary schools and Montessori primary schools, optionally in the schools, which are inspired by Montessori principles. The aim of the work is to find out, how this type of relationship differs in these schools, or how the lessons are organized. My methods were observations in four state primary schools and in four Montessori primary schools or in schools, which are inspired by Montessori principles. I worked with the results of questionnaires which were filled out by teachers as well as the pupils of the specific schools. The results of the research showed, that educational process in the state primary schools is running in a style of frontal instruction. However, the results of the research in the Montessori institutions showed, that the lessons and relationships between teachers and pupils are different, than they should be according to the Montessori principles - I noticed, that instead of expected open learning in these schools are mostly running lessons in a style on frontal instruction.
