Pragmatic cycling in a rural setting

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na role cyklistiky v rutinní mobilitě obyvatel venkova. Zároveň zkoumá specifika vyplývající z infrastrukturních a časoprostorových východisek venkovského prostředí a odhaluje případná omezení v tomto prostoru. Data pro následnou analýzu byla získávána prostřednictvím semistrukturovaných rozhovorů, které byly prováděny s komunikačními partnery v rámci okresu Svitavy. Analýzou dat bylo zjištěno, že pragmatická cyklistika ve venkovském prostoru představuje významný způsob dopravy především při dojížďce do zaměstnání, na nákup či například v rámci samotného venkova. Pragmatická cyklistika s sebou přináší řadu pozitiv, ale také negativ, které významně ovlivňují cyklisty. Mezi pozitiva můžeme zařadit flexibilitu jízdního kola či pohyb, který člověk při jízdě na kole vyvine a který je považován za součást osobního tréninku. Za negativa můžeme naopak považovat nepříznivé počasí, které je pro mnoho cyklistů omezující či malou míru bezpečnosti při jízdě po frekventované silnici. Ve venkovském prostoru pragmatická cyklistika představuje plnohodnotnou formu dopravy a v mnoha případech zde jízdní kolo přestavuje také jediný možný dopravní prostředek, kterým člověk může požadovaného cíle dosáhnout v určitý čas.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the role of cycling in the routine mobility of rural residents. It also explores the specificities arising from the infrastructural and spatio-temporal assumptions of the rural environment and reveals possible constraints in this space. Data for the subsequent analysis were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with communication partners within the Svitavy district. The data analysis revealed that pragmatic cycling in the rural setting represents an important mode of transport, especially for commuting to work, shopping or for example within the rural area itself. Pragmatic cycling brings with it a number of positives, but also negatives that significantly affect cyclists. Positives include the flexibility of the bicycle or the movement one develops while cycling, which is considered part of personal training. On the other hand, we can consider as negatives the bad weather that is limiting for many cyclists or the low level of safety when riding on a busy road. In rural areas, pragmatic cycling is a fully-fledged form of transport and in many cases the bicycle is also the only means of transport available to reach the desired destination in a given time.
