Organization of the first national Spartakiad in Czechoslovakia in 1955 in the context of the Sokol gatherings

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá organizací I. celostátní spartakiády v Československu v roce 1955 v kontextu se všesokolskými slety. V teoretické části jsou rozebrány významné tělovýchovné organizace působící v českých zemích během 19. a 20. století. Největší z těchto hnutí byl Sokol, který byl nejstarším a měl nejvíce členů. Sokol proslul především díky pořádání všesokolských sletů, což byly hromadná sportovní cvičení vycházející především z gymnastiky. Po druhé světové válce a komunistickém puči v roce 1948 byl Sokol a další organizace zrušeny a včleněny do jednotného tělovýchovného svazu. To znamenalo, že od roku 1955 se začaly pořádat spartakiády. První celostátní spartakiáda se velmi inspirovala sokolskými slety, ale byla značně upravena do socialistické podoby. Tyto hromadná cvičení byly velmi oblíbená mezi tehdejšími účastníky. V praktické části rozeberu, jak probíhala organizace spartakiády a v čem se shodovala se sokolskými slety.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the organization of the 1st national Spartakiad in Czechoslovakia in 1955, within the context of the Sokol gatherings. The theoretical part examines significant physical education organizations operating in the Czech lands during the 19th and 20th centuries. The largest of these organizations was Sokol, which was the oldest and had the most members. Sokol was particularly renowned for organizing Sokol gatherings, which were mass gymnastic events primarily based on gymnastics. After World War II and the communist revolution in 1948, Sokol and other sports organizations were disbanded and incorporated into a unified physical education association. This meant that from 1955 onwards, Spartakiads began to be held. The 1st national Spartakiad was greatly inspired by Sokol gatherings but was significantly modified to fit the socialist model. These mass exercises were very popular among the participants at the time. In the practical part, I will analyze how the organization of the Spartakiad was carried out and in what ways it was similar to the Sokol gatherings.
