The contemporary barriers connected with the accession process of Serbia to the EU

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se fokusuje na aktuální bariéry spojené s procesem přistoupení Srbska k EU. Jejím cílem je identifikovat největší překážky, které brání Srbsku na jeho cestě ke vstupu do EU a uvést doporučení, kterými by mohlo dojít k jejich odstranění. Mnoho z těchto bariér má přímou souvislost s historickým vývojem Srbska, konkrétně s vývojem Svazové republiky Jugoslávie. Práce začíná uvedením historického kontextu Srbska od začátku 90. let, až po jeho jednání o přistoupení k EU. Druhá kapitola se zabývá jednak ekonomickou připraveností Srbska, především zkoumání makroekonomické stability, tak i identifikací jeho nejdůležitějších obchodních vztahů. Součástí práce je také identifikace ne-ekonomických překážek, které obsahují především legislativní a korupční problémy, boj proti organizovanému zločinu, konflikt mezi Srbskem a Kosovem a vývoj vztahů s Čínou a Ruskem. V závěru práce je identifikován možný budoucí vývoj vstupu Srbska do EU.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on contemporary barriers connected with the accession process of Serbia to the EU. The main goal of is not only to identify the most important barriers of Serbia’s EU accession process, but also to give recommendation on how to abolish them. Many of these obstacles have a direct connection to the history of Serbia, or to be more specific to the history of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The first chapter of this thesis introduces the history of Serbia since early 1990s until its accession negations with the EU and the various specifics the country must fulfil. The second chapter states the economic readiness of Serbia, focusing mainly on macroeconomic stability as well as identification of Serbia’s most important trading partners. An integral part of this thesis is also the identification of non-economic barriers, among which corruption, legislature issues, fight against organized crime, the conflict of Serbia and Kosovo as well as the development of relations with China and Russia are included. The possible future development of Serbia’s accession into the EU is identified in the last chapter of this thesis.
