Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá srovnávací analýzou mezi britskou a americkou angličtinou v rámci obchodní terminologie. Cílem této práce je analyzovat několik sémantických oblastí, identifikovat a vysvětlit lexikální rozdíly mezi dvěma vybranými variantami. Teoretická část nastiňuje historický vývoj angličtiny, popisuje některé její varianty a představuje modely angličtiny (např. angličtina jako mateřský jazyk, angličtina jako druhý jazyk, angličtina jako cizí jazyk) se zaměřením na angličtinu pro specifické účely a obchodní angličtinu. Dále se práce zabývá obecnými rozdíly mezi britskou a americkou angličtinou, které jsou porovnány a rozděleny do několika kategorií. Druhá polovina teoretické části poskytuje základní vhled do problematiky účetnictví a obchodního práva. Praktická část je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí. První část srovnává lexikální rozdíly obchodní terminologie na základě analýzy učebnic a specializovaných slovníků. Následně jsou analyzovány a porovnány finanční výkazy čtyř obchodních společností. Třetí část se soustředí na obchodní právo a lexikální rozdíly v této oblasti. Následuje diskuse o praktických důsledcích nejenom pro výuku angličtiny.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is concerned with a comparative analysis of British and American business terminology. The aim of this thesis is to analyse several semantic fields, identify and explain the lexical differences between the two chosen varieties. The theoretical part outlines the historical development of the English language and describes some of its varieties. Different models of English (e.g. ENL, ESL, EFL) are introduced with an emphasis on ESP and Business English. Afterwards, general differences between British and American English in several linguistic categories are compared. The second half of the theoretical part focuses on accounting as well as company law, which is further developed in the practical part. The practical part is divided into three main sections. The first part compares lexical differences in business terminology, based on the analysis of textbooks and specialised dictionaries. Subsequently, financial statements of four companies are analysed and compared. The third section focuses on company law and lexical differences in this field. The thesis concludes with a discussion of the practical and teaching implications.
