The Russian Federation and its position in contemporary international relations

Abstract:

Master‘s Dissertation shows the position of the Russian Federation in contemporary international relations, while trying to define its position on the basis of a case study of the Concept of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation 2023, and its comparison with the NATO Strategic Concept 2022. The main goal of this dissertation is primarily the analysis of the current policy of the Russian Federation, on what level was and is the development of relations between the Russian Federation and NATO and bring closer the possibilities of further development of Russian policy in the 21st century. Since the aim of this work is to define the current position of the Russian Federation in international relations, it is important to show not only the relationship and view of the Russian Federation towards the international order, but also how the Russian Federation is perceived by other actors. The concept of foreign policy points out that Russia is committed to fundamentally different principles and values, which prevent cooperation with the West and especially in cooperation with NATO. In the concept, we can feel the will of the Russian Federation to cooperate at the international level, but the goals and objectives are supplemented according to its own interests. The current state of relations between NATO and Russia is characterized by significant tension and mutual mistrust, and that is why it can be very difficult in the future, especially because although in some cases it may seem possible to find an intersection of cooperation, the goals remain the same in terms of content, but the view of application of those goals to reality differs. In conclusion, we can say that the Russian Federation is taking its own path in the participation of international relations to achieve its great power status. The issue of the diploma thesis can be a contribution to the academic field, because it tries to bring closer and clarify some events and relations in the international environment.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sleduje postavenie Ruskej federácie v súčasných medzinárodných vzťahoch, pričom sa snaží definovať jej pozíciu na základe prípadovej štúdie Koncepcie zahraničnej politiky Ruskej federácie 2023 a jej komparáciou s Koncepciou zahraničnej politiky NATO 2022. Hlavným cieľom tejto práce je predovšetkým analýza súčasnej politiky Ruskej federácie, aký bol a je vývoj vzťahov medzi Ruskou federáciou a NATO, a priblížiť možnosti ďalšieho vývoja ruskej politiky v 21. storočí. Keďže cieľom tejto práce je definovať súčasné postavenie Ruskej federácie v medzinárodných vzťahoch, je dôležité zohľadniť nie len vzťah a pohľad Ruskej federácie k medzinárodnému poriadku, ale aj to, ako je vnímaná Ruská federácia zo strany iných aktérov. Koncepcia zahraničnej politiky poukazuje na to, že Rusko sa zaviazalo k zásadne odlišným princípom a hodnotám, ktoré bránia spoločnej spolupráci so Západom a najmä v spolupráci s NATO. V koncepcii síce môžeme cítiť vôľu Ruskej federácie spolupracovať na medzinárodnej úrovni, ale ambície a ciele sú plnené podľa jej vlastných záujmov. Súčasný stav vzťahov medzi NATO a Ruskom momentálne charakterizuje výrazné napätie a vzájomná nedôvera, preto je v budúcnosti veľmi ťažké hovoriť o spolupráci. Pretože aj keď sa v niektorých prípadoch môže zdať, že je možné nájsť prieniky na spoluprácu, pretože ciele sú rovnaké po obsahovej stránke, pohľad na aplikáciu týchto cieľov do reality sa líši. V závere môžeme konštatovať, že Ruská federácia sa v súčasných medzinárodných vzťahoch vydáva vlastnou cestou k dosiahnutiu svojho veľmocenského postavenia. Problematika diplomovej práce môže byť prínosom do akademickej oblasti, pretože sa snaží priblížiť a objasniť niektoré udalosti a vzťahy v medzinárodnom prostredí.
