Plant invasions in floodplain habitats of the lower Morava and Dyje rivers

Abstract:

Říční nivy představují specifické prostředí pro rostlinné invaze. Šíření nepůvodních druhů rostlin je zde podpořeno fluviálními disturbancemi i dlouhodobým vlivem člověka. Cílem práce bylo srovnat invadovanost aluviálních biotopů, nalézt vztahy mezi původními a nepůvodními druhy ve vegetaci a stanovit vliv vybraných charakteristik okolí na invaze. Jako modelové území byly zvoleny nivy řek Moravy a Dyje mezi Břeclaví a Kroměříží. Bylo vybráno devět biotopů zahrnujících hlavní typy vegetace v území. V místech náhodně generovaných zeměpisných souřadnic bylo zapsáno 135 fytocenologických snímků o ploše 16 m2. Ve stometrovém kruhu okolo každého snímku byl kvantifikován výskyt invazních druhů, odhadnuta plocha vegetačních typů a zaznamenány cesty, vodní toky a plochy. Zpětně byla u každé lokality stanovena její poloha ve dvacetileté nebo stoleté záplavové zóně. Nepůvodní flóra území byla tvořena z 60,7 % archeofyty a 39,3 % neofyty. Invazní druhy představovaly 32,9 % všech nepůvodních druhů. Biotopy s nejvyššími počty jak archeofytů, tak i neofytů byly ruderální bylinná vegetace a paseky. Mimo tyto biotopy však archeofyty spíše inklinovaly k mezickým až sušším stanovištím v bezlesí, jako byly mezofilní louky. Neofyty se odlišovaly větší afinitou k lesní vegetaci, zvláště měkkým luhům. Počty invazních druhů, stejně jako archeofytů, se zvyšovaly s rostoucími počty původních druhů na lokalitách. Pomocí výpočtu fidelity byla stanovena biotopová vazba jednotlivých nepůvodních druhů. Výskyt nejčastějších nepůvodních druhů byl srovnán mezi oblastmi výše a níže po proudu. Pomocí regresních stromů bylo zjištěno, že nejvýznamnějším prediktorem počtu nepůvodních druhů na lokalitě je biotop, který ovlivňuje více druhové složení archeofytů než invazních druhů i neofytů, jak bylo potvrzeno při rozkladu variance. Na častěji zaplavovaných lokalitách byly nalezeny větší počty invazních druhů i neofytů. Jejich počty se zvyšovaly i v závislosti na přítomnosti vodních ploch a toků v okolí. Archeofyty byly pozitivně ovlivněny blízkostí cest. S rostoucí fragmentací biotopů a s větším zastoupením invazních druhů v okolí počet invazních druhů na lokalitách také vzrůstal. Byl objeven vztah mezi plochou některých vegetačních typů v okolí a výskytem nepůvodních druhů ve snímcích. Na základě výsledků regresních stromů byly v geografickém informačním systému vytvořeny mapy invadovanosti biotopů v území.

Abstract:

Riparian zones present a suitable part of the landscape for plant invasions. Spread of alien species has been supported here by fluvial disturbances and long-term human impact. This study provides a comparison of the level of invasion among different floodplain habitats, determines the relationships between aliens and native species in vegetation and evaluates the influence of selected landscape features on the occurrence of alien species. As a model riparian system, floodplains of the lower Morava and Dyje Rivers between towns Břeclav and Kroměříž in the south-eastern part of the Czech Republic were chosen. Nine habitat types were used that corresponded to the main vegetation types. In total, 135 vegetation plots with 16 m2 area were sampled on sites of randomly generated geographical coordinates. Occurrence of invasive species and areas of particular vegetation types were estimated in 100m circles around these plots. The presence of roads and watercourses near the plots was also recorded. Location of each plot in the 20-year or 100-year flood zone was assessed. Alien flora of the study area includes 60,7 % of archaeophytes and 39,3 % of neophytes. Invasive species represent 32,9 % of all aliens. The highest numbers of both archaeophytes and neophytes were found in herbaceous ruderal vegetation and forest clearings. Besides these habitats, archaeophytes showed a stronger affinity to semi-natural vegetation on mesic to drier sites, such as mesic Arrhenatherum meadows. On the contrary, neophytes tended to occur in woodlands, especially willow-poplar forests. Numbers of invasive species as well as archaeophytes were positivelly correlated with higher native species richness. Habitat preferences of particular alien species were determined using fidelity measures. Occurrence of the most frequent aliens was compared between lower and upper course of the river. Regression trees were used to explain numbers of alien species in the plots. The most important predictor of their numbers was habitat type. More variation in species composition of archaeophytes was explained by habitat type than for neophytes and invasive species, as shown by variation partitioning. Numbers of invasive species and neophytes increased with higher flood frequency and in the plots adjacent to the watercourses. Archaeophytes were more frequent in plots closer to roads. The numbers of invasive species were higher in more fragmented habitats with strong representation of invaders in the surroundings. There was also a significant relationship between certain vegetation types in the 100m circles and the numbers of aliens in the plots. On the basis of regression trees maps of the level of invasion in the study area have been produced.
