Diversity of secondary forest vegetation in agricultural landscape: is there an insular effect?

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá diverzitou vegetace sekundárních lesíků v zemědělské krajině severní Hané. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, zdali se na diverzitě vegetace projevují ostrovní efekty velikosti plochy a izolovanosti, resp. vzdálenosti od primárních lesů. Dále byl uvažován vliv dalších faktorů prostředí – stáří lesíku, půdního pH, pokryvnosti dřevinných pater a přítomnosti navazujících biotopů. Práce se také zabývala počty nepůvodních a invazních druhů a výskytem druhů z hlediska různých strategií šíření. Úvodní část práce podává vhled do problematiky ostrovních biotopů v zemědělské krajině a teoretický základ vycházející z teorie ostrovní biogeografie. Metodika nabízí přehled výzkumu, postup při výběru lokalit, definování sekundárního lesíku a postup při jejich mapování, dále zpracování a analýzu dat. Vegetační zápisy byly pořízeny ve 23 sekundárních lesících, v nichž byl zaznamenán výskyt 91 taxonů cévnatých rostlin, z nichž patnáct bylinných druhů bylo zařazeno do skupiny lesních specialistů, 20 druhů bylo nepůvodních a čtyři invazní. Analýzy (korelace, regrese a ordinace) ukázaly těsnou pozitivní závislost mezi relativním zastoupením lesních specialistů v bylinném patře a velikostí plochy lesíku. Ostrovní efekt izolovanosti se projevil pouze na celkové alfa diverzitě, kdy s rostoucí vzdáleností od primárního lesa alfa diverzita klesala. Práce přinesla nové poznatky o systému lesních ostrovních biotopů v intenzivně využívané zemědělské krajině. Na základě vybraných poznatků pak byla formulována dílčí doporučení pro ochranu přírody v zemědělské krajině.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with a diversity of vegetation of secondary forest patches in the agricultural landscape of the northern Haná region (Czech Republic). The aim of the research was to find out whether the diversity of vegetation is affected by island effects of area and isolation, in particular the distance from primary forests. Furthermore, the influence of other environmental factors was considered – age of the forest, soil pH, tree cover and presence of adjacent habitats. The work also focused on the number of alien and invasive species and the distribution of species in terms of different dispersal strategies. The opening part gives an insight into the topis of habitat islands in agricultural landscape and the theoretical frame based on the theory of island biogeography. The methodology includes a research overview, describing the procedure of site selection, the definition of secondary forest and their mapping, as well as subsequent data processing and analyses. Vegetation plots were made in 23 secondary forests, in which the occurrence of 91 taxa of vascular plants was recorded, of which 20 were non-native and four invasive. Fifteen species of the herb layer were classified as forest specialists. Analyses (correlation, regression and ordination) have shown a close positive relationship between the relative frequencies of forest specialists and the size of the forest patch. The effect of isolation was detected only in the total alpha diversity of vegetation plots, where alpha diversity decreased with increasing distance from the primary forest. This work brought new knowledge about the system of forest habitat islands in the intensively cultivated landscape. Based on selected findings, a few suggestions for nature-conservation strategy in agricultural landscape were made.
