Light forests dominated by oak are one of the richest Central European forest communities. At present, however, they are often in a poor state in terms of biodiversity. Until now, the main cause of degradation was mainly considered to be the mesophilicization of stands, but the ever-increasingly devastating impact is overgrazing of game and, in recent years, extremely dry periods.
