Prevalence of overweight and obesity in selected population groups

Abstract:

Rostoucí prevalence nadváhy a obezity je ve většině případů dána jako důsledek současného životního stylu celé populace, tedy jak dospělých, tak dětí. Obezita v dětském věku bývá předpokladem k obezitě v dospělosti. Životní styl a prostředí, ve kterém dítě vyrůstá, jsou důležitými determinantami v životě jedince a v jeho vývoji, a tvoří základ prevence proti obezitě. Nezdravý životní styl dítěte vede k obezitě a je rizikem pro rozvoj metabolických a kardiovaskulárních onemocnění, kožních potíží, poruch pohybového aparátu, psychických problémů a dalších závažných onemocnění, která mohou manifestovat již v dětském věku nebo se projevit až v dospělosti. Diplomová práce se zabývá etiopatogenezí, rizikovými faktory, následky, diagnostikou, prevencí a léčbou nadváhy a obezity u dětské populace. Hlavním cílem bylo zjistit prevalenci nadváhy a obezity u žáků vyššího stupně základní školy v Paskově a Sedlištích ve věku 11-15 let. K hodnocení byly využity naměřené antropometrické ukazatele a vypočítané hodnoty body mass indexu, které byly následně zpracovány pomocí percentilového grafu BMI, který bere v potaz věk a pohlaví dítěte. Dále byly zpracovány výsledky dotazníkového šetření, které se zabývalo životním stylem dětí, a to hlavně jejich stravovacími návyky, sportovní aktivitou a využitím jejich volného času. Ve zkoumaném souboru dětské populace byl zjištěn výskyt nadváhy u 10 % dívek a 14 % chlapců. Obezitou trpí 7 % dívek a 19 % chlapců. Z vyhodnocených dat vyplývá, že chlapci trpí častěji nadváhou či obezitou než dívky. Přestože tento rozdíl nebyl prokázán jako statisticky významný, považujeme rozdíl za podstatný, jak tomu nasvědčují výsledky mezinárodních i státních studií.

Abstract:

The increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity is in most cases the result of the current lifestyle of the entire population, i.e. both adults and children. Obesity in childhood is a precursor to obesity in adulthood. Lifestyle and the environment in which the child grows up are important determinants in the individual's life and in his development and forms the basis for prevention of obesity. An unhealthy lifestyle leads to child obesity and the risk of development of metabolic and cardiovascular disease, skin disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, psychological problems and other serious diseases that can manifest in childhood or even occur in adulthood. This thesis deals with the etiopathogenesis, risk factors, consequences, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in the paediatric population. The main objective was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in pupils of primary schools in Paskov and Sedliště aged 11-15. The ratings used anthropometric indicators and calculated values of the body mass index, which were then processed using a BMI percentile chart that takes into account the age and gender of the child. Furthermore, the processed results of the survey dealt with the lifestyle of the children, especially their eating habits, sports activities and use of their free time. In the research group of the child population the prevalence of overweight was found to be 10 % of girls and 14 % of boys. Obesity is suffered by 7 % of girls and 19 % of boys. The evaluated data show that boys suffer more often by being overweight or obese than girls. Although this difference was not found to be statistical ly significant, the difference is considered as substantive, as indicated by the results of international and national studies.
