Clothes as a Symbol

Abstract:

Anotace Diplomová práce „Oděv jako znakový systém“ pojednává o oděvu a oblékání, a o významu, jaký mu lidé přisuzují. Každá kultura, společnost, skupina, i jednotlivci, mají určitý kódový systém, pomocí kterého vnímají znaky vysílané druhými lidmi. Mezi takové znaky patří téměř vše, s čím se každodenně setkáváme. Mezi znaky patří řeč, gesta, mimika, a v neposlední řadě i oděv který nosíme. Ve své práci se zabývám tím, jaké vlivy působí na to, co si lidé oblékají, jak moc jsou si takových vlivů vědomi, a nakolik jim podléhají. Mezi takové vlivy patří podnebí, kultura, etnikum, pohlaví, věk, móda a mnoho dalších faktorů. Mezi znaky, které jsou ostatními lidmi na oděvu vnímané, patří barvy oděvu, vzory, použitý materiál, střih oděvu, a to vše s ohledem na současná módní a společenská pravidla v odívání. Současně se práce zabývá způsobem, dešifrují znaky a poselství ukryté v oděvu druhých lidí. Na toto téma jsem provedla výzkum, který byl zaměřen primárně na děti druhého stupně základních škol, tedy na děti ve věku, kterému odpovídá i moje aprobace na pedagogické fakultě. Tento výzkum má pomoci učitelům pochopit, jak žáci vnímají sebe a svůj vzhled, a zároveň jak posuzují a vnímají učitele podle oděvu. Právě na vzhled a oděv kladou děti ve věku 12 – 16 let velký, často až přehnaný důraz. Tato diplomová práce má napomoci pochopit signály, které lidé skrze oděv vysílají a přijímají.

Abstract:

Annotation This diploma work „Clothes as a semiotic system“ deals with clothes and clothing and with the meaning, that people attribute to. Every culture, society, company or even single persons have their kind of special code system and thank to this, people perceive signs sending by other people. And those signs are almost everything we can see in our everyday lives including language, gestures, mimicry and also clothes we wear. In my work I consider what influences are responsible for clothes people wear, how strong is their knowledge about such a things and if they are subject to and how much. Those influences are among others climate, culture, ethnicity, gender, age, fashion in itself and many other factors. And those signs, which are perceive by other people on our clothes, are colours, pattern, material, styling of a dress and others. All of this should be in last fashion style and with a respect on fashion and social rules in clothing in present-day. This work also considers a way people perceive and decode signs, symbols and messages, that are hidden in other peoples´ clothes. I did a themed research and this was primary focused on secondary school children, it will be my teaching qualification. This research should help teachers to understand, how their pupils and students feel about themselves, about their looks and also how they perceive and judge teachers by their clothing. Children at this age insist on clothes and visage, sometimes maybe too much. This diploma work should help to understand to those signs and symbols, which people signalize and accept through their clothes.
