Cyberbullying and other forms of online harassment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou kyberšikany a dalšími pastmi internetové komunikace. Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda se s kyberšikanou setkalo více dívek či chlapců, jaký typ kyberšikany se u žáků ve věku 13-16 let vyskytuje nejvíce a jaká je informovanost žáků ohledně kyberšikany. V úvodu mé práce jsou definovány základní pojmy, které se vztahují k danému tématu. Následující kapitoly jsou zaměřeny na kyberšikanu, kybergrooming, sexting a kyberstalking. Tyto uvedené formy online obtěžování jsou následně podrobněji definovány a jsou zde popsána preventivní opatření, která se snaží předcházet danému problému. V praktické části práce jsou zkoumány odpovědi 100 studentů ve věku 13-16 let, které se zabývají zkušenostmi s kyberšikanou a jejich povědomím o tomto problému. Výzkum byl prováděn pomocí dotazníků, které respondenti vyplňovali. Výsledky dokazují, že s kyberšikanou mají větší zkušenost dívky než chlapci. Dále bylo zjištěno, že nejběžnějším typem online obtěžování u respondentů je sexting a veřejná kyberšikana, konkrétně kyberšikana ve formě přijímání urážlivých a výhružných zpráv. Výsledky ukazují, že kyberšikana je velice rozšířená a u dospívajících zcela běžná. Dále nám ukazují, že by bylo potřeba klást větší důraz na informovanost studentů a prevenci tohoto problému.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is cyberbullying and other forms of online harassment. The purpose of the study is to investigate experiences and gender differences in cyberbullying among adolescents 13-16 years of age. The thesis begins by defining key terms and concepts of the subject. Having identified these definitions, the study focuses on different forms of online harassment: cyberbullying, cybergrooming, sexting and cyberstalking. The aforementioned types of online harassment are explored in more detail to enhance understanding of the phenomenon as well as to suggest prevention strategies. The study then goes on to look into the sample of 100 students aged 13-16 years to examine their cyberbullying experiences and their awareness of the problem. All the students completed a self-report questionnaire. Findings indicate that girls are more likely to experience cyberbullying than boys. Furthermore, sexting and cyberbullying in the form of receiving offensive and threatening messages are identified as the most common types of online harassment experienced by both girls and boys. These results show that cyberbullying is common among adolescents, and therefore, they underline the importance of cyberbullying awareness and prevention.
