Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo zjistit účinek fúzí a akvizic (M&A) na finanční výkonnost komerčních bank v Indii. Studie hypotetizovala, že fúze a akvizice mají pozitivní vliv na ziskovost, efektivitu a produktivitu. Zaměření výzkumné práce bylo na účinek fúze a akvizice Státní banky Indie a Státní banky Indore, ke které došlo v roce 2010. Státní banka Indie byla akvirovatelem a Státní banka Indore byla cílem. Nezávislé proměnné zahrnovaly kapitál a růst. Závislé proměnné byly ziskovost, efektivita a produktivita. Studie se zaměřovala na období před M&A 2002–2009 a období po M&A 2011–2018. Výsledky ukázaly, že ziskovost a efektivita klesly v období po M&A. Produktivita se zvýšila v období po M&A. V období před M&A měl kapitál negativní a statisticky významný vliv na ziskovost, v období po fúzi byl vliv nevýznamný. S růstem měl v obou obdobích před a po M&A negativní a významný vliv na ziskovost. V obou obdobích před a po M&A měly kapitál a růst nevýznamný vliv na efektivitu. V období před M&A bylo zjištěno, že kapitál má pozitivní a statisticky významný vliv na produktivitu, v období po fúzi byl vliv nevýznamný. S růstem měl v obou obdobích před a po M&A nevýznamný vliv na produktivitu. Bylo závěrem konstatováno, že transakce M&A mezi Státní bankou Indie a Státní bankou Indore přinesly zvýšení produktivity

Abstract:

The objective of the thesis was to determine the effect of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on the financial performance of commercial banks in India. The study hy pothesised that mergers and acquisitions have a positive effect on profitability, effi ciency and productivity. The focus of the research work was on the effect of the mer ger and acquisition of State Bank of India and State Bank of Indore that occurred in 2010. State Bank of India was the acquirer and State Bank of Indore was the target. The independent variables included capital and growth. The dependent variables were profitability, efficiency and productivity. The study focused on the per-M&A period 2002 – 2009 and the post-M&A period 2011-2018. The results showed that the profitability and efficiency declined in the post-M&A period. The productivity increased in the post-M&A period. In the pre-M&A period, capital had a negative and statistically significant effect on profitability, in the post-merger period the effect was insignificant. In both the pre and post-M&A period growth had a negative and significant effect on profitability. In both the pre and post-M&A period, capital and growth had insignificant effects on efficiency. In the pre-M&A period, capital was found to have a positive and statistically significant effect on productivity, in the post-M&A period the effect was insignificant. In both the pre and post-M&A period growth had an insignificant effect on productivity. It was concluded that the M&A transactions between the State Bank of India and the State Bank of Indore yielded productivity gains.
