Stage invaded by death: Theatre of Sony Labou Tansi

Abstract:

The diploma thesis analyses the theme of death in the dramatic work of the Congolese writer Sony Labou Tansi - the death permeates through all its components. The first two points of view of the analysis are the ubiquity of death in the atmosphere of the plays and the link between death and the characters. The third part of the thesis deals with going through the death itself, with its ambiguous and uncommon nature, and arrives at a definition of a specific space of experienced death, of an "inter-death" ("l´entre-mort"). In this universe of the frontier between life and death, fused in one only whole, Sony´s characters change into zombies. This feature is essential for all of Sony´s dramas, the thesis is based particularly on four of them: La Parenthese de sang, Conscience de tracteur, Une Chouette petite vie bien osée and Qu´ils le disent, qu´elles le beuglent. In the conclusion, the humanist and the absurd interpretation of Sony´s theatre are confronted.

Diplomová práce analyzuje téma smrti v divadelních hrách konžského autora Sonyho Labou Tansiho - smrt prosakuje všemi jejich složkami. Prvními dvěma východisky rozboru jsou všudypřítomnost smrti v atmosféře dramat a spojení postav se smrtí. Ve třetí části se práce zabývá samotným prožíváním smrti, jeho nejednoznačným a nejasným charakterem, a dospívá k definici specifického prostoru prožívané smrti, "mezismrtí" ("l´entre-mort"). V tomto světě na hranici mezi životem a smrtí, které spojuje v jednolitý celek, se Sonyho postavy mění v zombie. Tento rys je zásadní pro celou Sonyho dramatickou tvorbu, diplomová práce vychází především ze čtyř dramat: La Parenthese de sang, Conscience de tracteur, Une Chouette petite vie bien osée a Qu´ils le disent, qu´elles le beuglent. V závěru práce je konfrontována humanistická a absurdní interpretace Sonyho divadla.
