Women in Japanese theatre after 1868

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis is the performance of actresses in Japanese theatre after 1868. The main aim of the thesis is to find out why the return of these actresses to the Kabuki stage was unsuccessful. To achieve this aim, I discuss the original ban on actresses from 1629 and the reasons for it. In the second chapter, I look at the lifting of the ban and its impact on the theatre and society. In the final chapter I discuss the actual return of actresses to the theatre. In the conclusion, I summarise the factors that influenced the return of the actresses and formulate the main reason why they could not return to the Kabuki stage.

Abstract:

Predmetom tejto práce je pôsobenie herečiek v japonskom divadle po roku 1868. Hlavným cieľom práce je zistiť, prečo bol návrat týchto herečiek do kabuki neúspešný. Na naplnenie tohto cieľa sa v prvej kapitole venujem pôvodnému zákazu herečiek z roku 1629 a jeho dôvodom. V druhej kapitole skúmam zrušenie zákazu žien v divadle a jeho vplyv na divadlo a spoločnosť. V poslednej kapitole sa zaoberám samotným návratom herečiek do divadla. V závere práce zhŕňam faktory, ktoré tento návrat ovplyvnili a formulujem tak hlavný dôvod, pre ktorý sa im do kabuki nepodarilo vrátiť.
