The Risk of Eating Disorder in Children

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit riziko vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy u dětí ve věku osm až třináct let navštěvující základní školy v Ostravě. Dále jsme se zabývali vztahem rizika vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy vzhledem k sebevědomí dítěte, k pohlaví a věkové kategorii dítěte. Metodika: Projekt byl řešen kvantitativní metodou ? standardizovanými dotazníky. Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno pomocí dvou standardizovaných nástrojů, ChEAT ? Children´s Eating Attitude Test a RES - Rosenberg´s Esteem Scale ve dvou základních školách v Ostravě. Vstupní kritériem byl souhlas vedoucích základních škol s participací na projektu a věk dětí osm až třináct let. Výzkumu se účastnilo celkem 184 dětí (n=184). Získaná data byla statisticky vyhodnocena, ? = 0,05. Výsledky: Celkem jsme nalezli 20,11 % dětí s rizikem vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy. Riziko poruchy příjmu potravy bylo větší u dívek. Věk dětí neměl vliv na vznik rizika poruchy příjmu potravy. Mezi sebevědomím a rizikem vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy jsme nalezli statisticky významnou negativní závislost. Děti s nižším sebevědomím mají vyšší riziko vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy. Pohlaví dětí nemělo vliv na míru sebevědomí. Závěr: U dětí mladších třinácti let se začínáme setkávat s rizikem vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy. Proto bychom se měli zaměřit na jejich časnou identifikaci a poskytnutí náležité odborné pomoci. Děti s nižším sebevědomím a dívky mají vyšší riziko vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy. Sebevědomí má protektivní charakter ve vzniku poruchy příjmu potravy u dětí.

Abstract:

Aims: The aim of this thesis was to determine the risk of eating disorder in children between age eight and thirteen years old in elementary schools of Ostrava. Furthermore, we were following up the relationship between risk of eating disorder and self-esteem of children. We were studying the risk of eating disorder depending on gender or on age of children also. Method: The research was made by quantitative method ? questionnaires. Two standardized questionnaires were used, ChEAT - Children´s Eating Attitude Test and RES - Rosenberg´s Esteem Scale. The entry criteria for participation in this study were agreement from director of the elementary school and age of the child between eight and thirteen years old. 184 children (n=184) were participated from two elementary schools in Ostrava. The data were stasticaly administrated, ? = 0,05. Results: We found 20,11 % of children having risk of eating disorder. The risk of eating disorder in children was strongly influenced by self-esteem. The age of children did not influence the risk of eating disorder. Between risk of eating disorder and self-esteem we found strongly negative correlation. Children with lower self-esteem have higher risk of eating disorder. Self-esteem in boys and girls didn´t differs. Conclusions: The results suggest the risk of eating disorder in younger children, fewer than thirteen years old, is increasing. We should focus on early detection of these children and provide them professional help. Children with lower self-esteem and girls are having greater risk of eating disorder. Self-esteem has protective character on having eating disorder in children.
