Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the operations of accommodation facilities in selected regions of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou a porovnáním vlivu pandemie COVID-19 na ubytovací služby ve vybraných krajích České republiky – Praze, Středočeském, Jihočeském a Ústeckém kraji. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jaké změny byly implementovány v ubytovacích zařízeních v reakci na pandemii a zhodnotit efektivitu těchto změn z hlediska bezpečnostních opatření. Metodologie práce zahrnuje literární rešerši zaměřenou na celkovou problematiku ubytovacích zařízení a krizí v cestovním ruchu se zaměřením na pandemii COVID-19. V práci je dále zahrnuta statistickou analýzu dat z Českého statistického úřadu a CzechTourism pro porovnání výkonových výsledků krajů v době před pandemii a po pandemii a kvalitativní rozhovory s vedoucími pracovníky vybraných ubytovacích zařízení, které umožnily hlubší vzhled do zvládání této krize v individuálních ubytovacích zařízení. Závěrečná komparativní analýza poskytuje přehled o tom, jaké faktory přispěly k lepšímu či horšímu zvládání této mimořádné situace v jednotlivých krajích a nabízí návrhy pro zlepšení odolnosti ubytovacích zařízení v budoucnu. Celkově práce přináší komplexní pohled na dopady pandemie COVID-19 na ubytovací sektor v České republice a zdůrazňuje význam efektivní přípravy a adaptace na podobné krizové situace v budoucnosti.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the analysis and comparison of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on accommodation facilities in selected regions of the Czech Republic - Prague, Central Bohemia, South Bohemia, and Ústí nad Labem region. The main objective is to determine what changes were implemented in accommodation facilities in response to the pandemic and to evaluate the effectiveness of these changes. The methodology of the work includes a literature review focused on the overall issues of accommodation facilities and crises in tourism, with a focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. The thesis also includes a statistical analysis of data from the Czech Statistical Office and CzechTourism to compare the performance results of the regions before and after the pandemic. The thesis includes also qualitative interviews with the managers of selected accommodation facilities, which provided deeper insights into handling this crisis at individual facilities. The final comparative analysis provides an overview of the factors that contributed to better management of this extraordinary situation in the various regions and offers suggestions for improving the resistance of accommodation facilities in the future. Overall, the work provides a comprehensive view of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the accommodation sector in the Czech Republic and emphasizes the importance of effective preparation and adaptation to similar crises in the future.
