Post-Television Reception Practices of the Young Adults in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Mediální výzkumy a jejich interpretace dodnes označují Čechy za „televizní národ“. Data týkající se mladých dospělých ovšem v oblasti lineárního televizního vysílání vykazují viditelné odchylky od průměru. Výsledky jiných badatelských činností přitom tuto věkovou skupinu zároveň označují za nejsilnější recipienty obsahů alternativních k televiznímu vysílání. Tato výzkumná práce se proto zabývá povahou volby zdroje audio a audiovizuálních obsahů prováděné mladými dospělými trvale žijícími na území České republiky s televizorem v domácnosti a faktory, které tuto volbu ovlivňují. Výzkum, jenž má podobu domestikačního kvalitativního bádání a je veden prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, je teoreticky zakotven do mediálně-vědního diskurzu mediamorfózy, konvergence médií, post-televizní situace a proměny mediálních uživatelů a podpořen již existujícími výzkumnými daty. Jeho cílem je zjištění povahy volby zdroje a zařízení pro recepci obsahů mladých dospělých a postavení lineárního televizního vysílání a televizoru mezi nimi.

Abstract:

Media research and its interpretations till today mark the Czech people as „a television nation“. However, data related to young adults show some considerable differences from the average linear television broadcasting consumption of the whole population. Simultaneously, the researchers also describe this age cathegory as the strongest consumers of the alternatives of the television broadcasting. That’s why this research thesis focuses on the choices of the audio and audiovisual media content sources made by young adults long-term living in the Czech Republic with a televisor in their households and also, on the factors influencing these choices. I’ve implemented this domestication qualitative research using semi-structured interviews, grounded by the media-science theories such as the mediamorphosis, the convergence of media, the post-television (post-network) situation or the change of the media users, acompanied with the current research data. The goal of this thesis is a detection of the principles of how young people choose the sources of the content they recieve and in what position among these sources of content stands the linear television broadcasting. It’s secondary interest is also the role of the televisor among the devices used for this content reception.
