Elements of Geometry in folk art and possible uses in the teaching of mathematics at primary school

Abstract:

Diplomová práce má název Prvky geometrie v lidovém umění a možnosti jejich využití ve výuce matematiky na ZŠ. Součástí práce jsou sady úloh zaměřené na geometrii v rovině. Tyto sady nabízí možnosti, jak využít prvky lidového umění ve výuce matematiky na 1. stupni základní školy. Hlavním cílem práce je ověření, jak využití prvků lidového umění motivuje žáky k řešení úloh ve výuce geometrie. Ze sady úloh byl vytvořen pracovní list, který byl testován na žácích 5. ročníku. Testováno bylo celkem 51 žáků na třech základních školách. Vyhodnocení probíhalo na základě úspěšnosti řešených úloh v pracovních listech, pozorování a následném skupinovém rozhovoru s žáky. V závěru jsou shrnuta konkrétní fakta, která mohou pomoci motivovat žáky k řešení úloh ve výuce geometrie.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is called The elements of the geometry in folk art and the possibilities of their use in teaching the mathematics at the primary school. The thesis includes the sets of tasks aimed at the plane geometry. These sets provide the options how to add the elements of the folk art to the subject mathematics at the first grades of the elementary schools. The main goal was to verify how the method of using the folk art motivate the pupils to solve the geometry tasks. The worksheet was created from the sets of tasks which was later provided to the pupils from fifth grade for the testing purpose. In total there were 51 pupils from three different primary schools. The evaluation was based on the success of the solved tasks in the worksheets, observation and group interview with those pupils. At the end of the thesis are summarized the specific facts which can help to motivate pupils to solve the tasks in geometry.
