Sustainable Companies in the United Kingdom

Abstract:

This thesis expands Global 100 research of the Corporate Knights company which annually ranks 100 of the most sustainable companies in the world and determine whether corporate sustainability practices are objectively comparable and evaluate if the companies even understand the sustainability goals correctly. In 2016, 9 of these companies were in the United Kingdom - Reckitt Benckiser, Centrica, Marks & Spencer, Diageo, BT, Unilever, Aviva and Pearson. To ensure objectivity, Global 100 uses only quantitative data that are often not easy to be found and understood. That is the reason why I first outline the context which the Global 100 is based on and then analyse the issues related to corporate sustainable policies and their sustainable evaluation. Further on, I dismantle sustainable reports of Reckitt Benckiser, Centrica, Marks & Spencer and Diageo throughout the years 2013 to 2017. I determine that sustainability of the companies is not objectively measurable and comparable and the Global 100 research on its own has very little value. Method used is compilation and comparative text analysis.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářské práce rozšiřuje výzkum Global 100 společnosti Corporate Knights, který každoročně vyhodnocuje 100 nejvíc trvale udržitelných společností na světě a zkoumá, zdali jsou trvale udržitelné praktiky těchto společností objektivně porovnatelné a jestli tyto společnosti správně pochopily cíle trvalé udržitelnosti. V roce 2016 bylo mezi tyto korporace zařazeno 9 společností ze Spojeného království - Reckitt Benckiser, Centrica, Marks & Spencer, Diageo, BT, Unilever, Aviva a Pearson. Global 100 používá ke svému výzkumu kvůli objektivitě pouze kvantitativní data, která nejsou pro čtenáře snadno dohledatelná a pochopitelná. Proto nejprve vysvětlím kontext, ze kterého Global 100 vychází a rozeberu problematiku hodnocení udržitelného rozvoje v rámci udržitelných politik společností. Dále dopodrobna rozeberu udržitelné výkazy společností Reckitt Benckiser, Centrica, Marks & Spencer a Diageo v průběhu let 2013 až 2017. Uvedu, že výzkum Global 100 má sám o sobě velmi malou hodnotu a trvalá udržitelnost společností není objektivně měřitelná a srovnatelná. Použitou metodou je kompilace a komparační textová analýza.
