ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF EMISSION REGULATIONS ON INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE VEHICLES IN THE EU AND THE U.S. AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE BEV PREFERENCE AS OF 2021

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce porovnává regulatorní prostředí spalovacích automobilů a následně prosazování elektromobilů v Evropské unii a Spojených státech amerických k roku 2021. V současné době je otázka klimatické změny a potlačování emisí skleníkových plynů mimořádně aktuální a významně zasahuje právě do automobilového průmyslu. Teoretická část vymezuje základní pojmy spojené s tématem jako environmentální ekonomie, externality, řešení externalit regulacemi, kritika regulací a dopady klimatické změny na hospodářství. Výsledky zkoumání porovnání spalovacích aut a elektromobilů, analýzy klimatických cílů a nástrojů a statistické analýzy v praktické části jsou pro přehlednost sumarizovány do SWOT analýzy. Zkoumání potvrzuje hypotézu, že se v EU prodává více elektromobilů kvůli přísnější regulaci. Další závěry jsou, že USA emituje daleko více skleníkových plynů, což souvisí s dvojnásobným průměrným ročním nájezdem km a poptávkou po větších a těžších autech.

Abstract:

This thesis compares the regulatory environment for internal combustion vehicles and the subsequent enforcement of electric vehicles in the European Union and the United States of America by 2021. Currently, the issue of climate change and the suppression of greenhouse gas emissions is extremely topical and significantly affects the automotive industry. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts related to the topic such as environmental economics, externalities, addressing externalities through regulation, criticism of regulation and the impact of climate change on the economy. The results of the examination of the comparison between internal combustion cars and electric cars, the analysis of the climate goals and tools and the statistical analysis in the practical part are summarized in a SWOT analysis for clarity. The investigation confirms the hypothesis that more BEVs are sold in the EU due to stricter regulation. Other outcomes are that the US emits far more greenhouse gases, which is related to twice the average annual mileage and the demand for larger and heavier cars.
