Growth of Hungarian Nationalism - Threat to European Humanism?

Abstract:

Úkolem této diplomové práce je prozkoumat vývoj v Maďarsku na počátku 21. století, zejména problematiku nárůstu nacionalismu, jak mezi obyvateli, tak i mezi politickými elitami. Část, která se přímo tímto problémem zabývá, se opírá o historii země a také o aktuální dění na politické scéně Maďarska. Zkoumán je nový ústavní řád a některé další kontroverzní zákony schválené stranou Fidesz, v jejímž čele stojí Viktor Orbán. Druhá část práce odpovídá na otázku, jež je položena v názvu práce samotné. Hledá možné příklady v minulosti, kdy se integrující Evropa ve druhé polovině dvacátého století musela s nacionalismem potýkat a také se zabývá nástroji, které může vůči hrozbě nárůstu nacionalismu v členském státě EU použít.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the political and social development in Hungary at the beginning of the 21st century, especially on the problem of the rise of nationalism amongst its inhabitants and political elites. One part of the text is looking for the proofs of nationalism on rise in recent events, such as new constitutional order and other controversial laws accepted by the Hungarian parliament which is under control of Viktor Orbán´s Fidesz. The other part is interested in the experiences of EU with the phenomenon of nationalism and the tools that the organization can use to prevent its further rise in power.
