Father's presence at childbirth from the point of view of women and men

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je přítomnost otce u porodu očima žen a mužů - zabývá se nejčastější doprovázející osobou rodičky na porodním sále. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a část praktickou. Teoretická část se stručně zabývá historií této problematiky, zmiňuje roli otce v průběhu těhotenství i celého porodního děje, zdůrazňuje význam předporodní přípravy pro budoucího otce a uvádí nejčastěji zmiňovaná pozitiva a negativa přítomnosti partnera na porodním sále. Hlavním cílem praktické části práce bylo zjistit, jak hodnotí přítomnost partnera u porodu ženy, jak vnímají svoji účast u porodu muži a jaké pocity jim oběma společný porod přinesl. K dosažení tohoto cíle byla zvolena metoda kvalitativního výzkumu - formou hloubkových polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s deseti náhodně vybranými páry. Studií bylo zjištěno, že vesměs u všech dotazovaných párů byla přítomnost otce u porodu přáním oboustranným. Partneři většinou považují účast otce dítěte u porodu za samozřejmost a zcela přirozenou záležitost, předporodní přípravu nepovažují za důležitou a často ji podceňují. Všechny dotazované ženy vnímají při mém výzkumném šetření přítomnost partnera u porodu kladně. Jako největší pozitivum uvádějí zejména psychickou oporu partnera, kterou jim přináší většinou už jen jeho samotná přítomnost, dále pak společně sdílenou radost z narození jejich děťátka a zmiňují i podporu fyzickou. Muži pokládají za největší prioritu radost ze zrození jejich potomka. Narození jejich děťátka hodnotí většinou jako jedinečný a neopakovatelný zážitek. Přicházejí však k porodu i proto, aby svoji ženu psychicky podpořili. Dotazované páry se domnívají, že společně prožitý porod ovlivní jejich budoucí vztah buď pozitivně, nebo neutrálně. O negativním dopadu na další soužití partnerů žádný z dotazovaných respondentů neuvažuje.

Abstract:

My bachelor thesis is called Father’s presence at childbirth from the point of view of women and men and it deals with the father´s presence as the most frequent accompanying person of the woman in labour in the delivery room.The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoratical part briefly deals with the history of this issues, mentions the role of the father during pregnancy and childbirth, emphasizes the importance of antenatal preparation for the future father and informs us about the most frequently mentioned positives and negatives of the partner´s presence in the delivery room.The main aim of the practical part was to find out how women evaluated the presence of their partner during their childbirth, how men perceived their attendance during the childbirth and how they both felt during the common childbirth. I chose the method of qualitative research to achieve the main aim of my work. This method was based on in-depth semistructured interviews with ten randomly selected couples. It was found through the studies, that almost all interviewed couples wished to have a partner at birth and this wish was the wish of both partners. Partners usually take the participation of the child´s father at birth for granted and completely natural but antenatal preparation is not important for them and they often underestimate it. During my research all the interviewed women percieve the father´s presence at birth very positively. They say, that the partner´s presence brings them primarily psychological and physical support and it is also very important for them that they can share the joy of a newborn baby together. These three things are introduced as the most positive. The most important and positive thing for men is their joy of a newborn baby. Most of them evaluate the birth of their child as a unique and unforgettable experience but they also come to the delivery room to encourage their wives especially mentally. The interviewed couples think, that the jointly spent childbirth can influence positively or neutrally their future relationship. None of the respondents regard the father´s presence at birth as the negative impact on other partners´ cohabitation.
