Ecologic Movements in the Czechoslovakia 1968-1969 and Their Participation on the Fall of Communist Regime - Programme, Activity, Persecution

Abstract:

Jedním z důvodů pádu komunistického režimu v Československu na konci 80. let byla nejen společenská, morální a ekonomická krize, ale též krize ekologická. Impulsy k řešení otázky zhoršujícího se životního prostředí přicházely jak od odborné veřejnosti (Akademie Věd), tak laické veřejnosti (aktivisté hnutí Brontosaurus a další). Představitelé státu a KSČ se snažili na tento trend reagovat, ale s minimálním úspěchem. Stát vzhledem ke své koncepci hospodářství a hospodářské situaci na řešení tohoto problému neměl finance a chyběla i politická vůle. Tato práce je zaměřena na historické mapování vzniku a činnosti ekologického hnutí v ČSSR v době tzv. normalizace. Na základě analýzy historických dokumentů a archivních pramenů se pokouší popsat program a činnost oficiálních ochranářských organizací (ČSOP, hnutí Brontosaurus) a především pak stanovené cíle a jejich naplňování neoficiálních ekologických hnutí (Ekovýbor působící v rámci Charty 77, petiční iniciativa Pražské Matky a další) a jejich perzekuci ze strany komunistického režimu.

Abstract:

At the end of 80. there was not only social, moral and economical crisis as the main reason of the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia but there was the ecological crisis, as well. The suggestion of solving of the damaging to the enviroment came from both, the professional circles (Academy of Sciences) and the lay public (Brontosaurus movement etc.), too. Representatives of the state and the communist party tried to react to the ecological problems, but they were not successful at all. The communist state had no money to deal with all of the ecological challenges. There was an absolute lack of the political will, as well.This paper tries to describe the origination and activity of the ecological movement in Czechoslovakia during the period of „normalization“. On the basis of an analyse of the historical documents and archival records it tries to describe the agenda and activity of the oficial environmentalist organizations (ČSOP, Brontosaurus movement) and the conception and actions of the unoficial environmentalist movements (Ekovýbor of Charta 77, Pražské Matky etc.).
