The Effect of External Debt on Economic Growth in Ghana in 1970-2019

Anotace:

The study's goal was to find out the effect of external debt on economic growth in Ghana. The study used data on GPD per capita, inflation, gross capital formation, external debt, debt service on external debt, and net exports from the world development indicator for 50 years (1970 – 2019). The study estimation procedure employs the ARDL model to estimate the long-run and short-run effects. The study revealed that external debt has an insignificant negative impact on Ghana's economic growth in the long run but increases the economic growth in the short run.
