The role of the extreme wind and biotic disturbances in the slope dynamic of the mountain temperate primeval forests

Abstract:

Bylo zjištěno, že biogeomorfologické procesy související se smrtí stromu významně působí na evoluci půd a svahovou dynamiku. Vliv málo frekventovaných extrémně silných disturbancí (ESD) je v této problematice přehlížen. Při ESD je typicky narušeno enormní množství stromů a je vychylován poměr mezi vývraty a zlomy. Tím se potenciálně intenzifikuje biogeomorfologický vliv stromů (BVS) na půdu. Cílem práce je kvantifikovat dopad ESD na svahovou dynamiku přirozených lesů ČR. Bylo zjištěno, že při orkánu Herwart v roce 2017 v Boubínském pralese bylo ovlivněno smrtí stromů 64 m3 h-1 půdy a poměr vyvrácených stromů ku zlomeným se změnil z dosavadního poměru 1:1,2 na 4,5:1. Při orkánu Kyrill v Žofínském pralese v roce 2007 bylo ovlivněno 94 m3 h-1 půdy a poměr se změnil z 1:4 na 5:1. Po orkánech nedošlo k výraznému poklesu studovaných BVS pravděpodobně v důsledku následného přemnožení lýkožrouta smrkového. Výsledky naznačují, že lokality s výskytem ESD vykazují větší objem ovlivněné půdy stromy než lokality s dominancí tzv. gap dynamiky.

Abstract:

It was found that biogeomorphological processes associated with tree death significantly affect soil evolution and slope dynamics. The influence of low-frequency extremely severe disturbances (ESD) is neglected in this topic. In ESD, the enormous number of trees is disturbed and the ratio between treethrow and tree breakage is deflected. This potentially intensifies the biogeomorphological effect of trees (BET) on the soil. The aim of this work is to quantify the impact of ESD on the slope dynamics of natural forests in the Czech Republic. It was found that 64 m3 h-1 of soil were affected by tree death as a result of the cyclone Herwart in Boubínský primeval forest in 2017. The ratio of uprooted trees to broken trees changed from the current ratio of 1:1.2 to 4.5:1. The Žofínský primeval forest was affected by 94 m3 h-1 of soil in 2007, and the ratio changed from 1:4 to 5:1. After the cyclone, there was no distinct decrease in studied BET, probably due to the subsequent outbreak of Bark beetle. The results show that localities with occurrence of ESD indicate a larger volume of soil affected by trees than localities with dominance of so-called gap dynamics.
