Teaching English to Pre-primary Children with the Focus on English Kindergartens in Brno

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je rozdělena na dvě části – teoretickou a praktickou. První část teoretické části je zaměřena na předškolní děti a jejich zvláštnosti, kterých by si rodiče i učitelé měli být vědomi. Je zde také vysvětlen rozdíl mezi osvojením si cizí jazyk a učením se cizímu jazyku a mezi otevřeným (explicit) a skrytým (implicit) opravováním chyb. Teoretická část se dále zabývá začátky výuky cizího jazyka v mateřských školách v naší zemi a kdy se objevily první anglické školky u nás. Poslední kapitola vysvětluje principy výuky v anglických školkách a nabízí seznam možných činností pro rozvoj poslechových a řečových dovedností dětí. Praktická část se zcela věnuje anglickým školkám v Brně. Nejdříve jsou popsány obecně a pak každá zvlášť. Dále jsou popsány činnosti, které jsem viděla během náslechu v anglických školkách. Poslední kapitola se zabývá informacemi, které jsem získala z dotazníků vyplněných rodiči dětí, které dochází do anglických školek v Brně.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. The first chapter of the theoretical part is focused on pre-primary children and their particularities that parents and teachers should be aware of. There is also explained difference between foreign language acquisition and foreign language learning and between implicit and explicit error correction. The theoretical part further concerns beginnings of foreign language teaching in kindergartens in our country and when the first English kindergartens were formed. The last chapter of theoretical part explains principles of teaching in English kindergartens and offers a list of possible activities for development of children’s listening and speaking skills. The practical part is fully focused on the English kindergartens in Brno that are described firstly generally and then each of them separately. Further, there are descriptions of activities that I could see during my visits in the English kindergartens. The last chapter deals with the information that I found out from the questionnaires that were filled in by parents whose children attend the English kindergartens in Brno.
