The Maturing and Initiation of the main character in Le dernier été des Indiens by Robert Lalonde

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor’s thesis is to analyse the novel Le dernier été des Indiens by Robert Lalonde that brings out the schema characteristic for an initiation novel. The firs part focuses on the description of the term initiation and its transformation across various literary movements. Consequently, the thesis introduces the main elements of the initiation novel based on the research of Daniela Hodrová. In the second part of the thesis the detailed analysis of the particular characters, space, time and ritual are presented to support the initiation journey of the main character.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce je analýza románu Le dernier été des Indiens quebeckého spisovateľa Roberta Lalonda, ktorý vykazuje prvky charakteristické pre iniciačný román. V prvej časti práca skúma význam iniciácie a jej vývoj naprieč jednotlivým literárnym smerom. Následne sú predstavené charakteristické prvky iniciačného románu Daniely Hodrovej, ktoré sú v druhej časti aplikované na samotný rozbor diela. Dôraz je kladený predovšetkým na analýzu postáv, priestoru, času a v neposlednej rade na iniciačnú cestu hlavného hrdinu, na jeho premenu a dozrievanie.
