The effect of feed additives on rumen function and methane production

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce podává ucelený přehled kategorií krmných aditiv využívaných ve výživě skotu, se zvláštním zaměřením na látky schopné snižovat emise enterického metanu. Na základě publikovaných vědeckých studií hodnotí vliv těchto látek na bachorovou fermentaci, analyzuje jejich mechanismy účinku a efektivitu v redukci metanogeneze. Z porovnání dostupných stra tegií vyplývá, že v současnosti se jako nejperspektivnější látka jeví 3-nitrooxypropanol, a to především díky své vysoké mitigační účinnosti, bezpečnosti pro zvířata a oficiálnímu legisla tivnímu schválení pro komerční využití. Závěr práce poukazuje na to, že skutečný dopad těchto aditiv je silně podmíněn složením krmné dávky. Klíčovou překážkou pro jejich širší uplatnění v praxi zůstává vysoká ekonomická náročnost podpořená skutečností, že snížení emisí metanu se nemusí přímo projevit ve zvýšené užitkovosti zvířat.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis provides a comprehensive overview of feed additive categories used in cattle nutrition, with a special focus on substances capable of reducing enteric methane emissi ons. Based on published scientific studies, it evaluates the effect of these substances on rumen fermentation, analyzes their mechanisms of action and effectiveness in reducing methanogene sis. A comparison of available strategies shows that 3-nitrooxypropanol currently appears to be the most promising substance, mainly due to its high mitigation efficiency, safety for animals, and official legislative approval for commercial use. The conclusion of the thesis points out that the actual impact of these additives is strongly dependent on the composition of the feed ration. A key obstacle to their wider application in practice remains their high economic cost, suppor ted by the fact that reducing methane emissions may not directly translate into increased animal productivity.
