Learning through listening and watching (The potential and usage of authentic films in teaching German as a foreign language)

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with the topic of using authentic film in teaching German as a foreign language. The goal is to introduce the contemporary situation concerning the use of authentic films in general and in terms of Czech grammar schools in particular. The theoretical part summarizes three main areas in which using film can be beneficial for learners. The didactic, language-focused and psychological aspects of using film in language teaching are described with added example exercises that could accompany didactically prepared film for teaching German. The empirical part assesses the real impact of this medium on learners. In the conclusion there are exercises designed for using didactically prepared film in German teaching, which have been tested in real teaching situations.

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je využití autentického filmového materiálu ve výuce němčiny jako cizího jazyka. Cílem práce je představit současnou situaci využití didakticky upravených filmů ve výuce němčiny jak z obecného úhlu pohledu, tak i v kontextu českého gymnasiálního školství. Teoretická část práce shrnuje tři základní oblasti, ve kterých může být film v rámci výuky němčiny jako cizího jazyka pro studenty přínosem. Jsou zde popsány didaktické, jazykové a psychologické aspekty využití filmu ve výuce a uvedeny příklady možných cvičení, které mohou didakticky upravený film ve výuce doprovázet. Praktická část zjišťuje skutečné působení tohoto média na studenty ve výuce němčiny. Závěrem jsou uvedena navržena cvičení, která byla vyzkoušena během reálné výuky.
