The Natural Landscape of the Czech Paradise Region as the Sacred Area of the Celts

Abstract:

Práce „Posvátná krajina keltů v Českém ráji z pohledu religionistiky“ si kladla za cíl ukázat možnost využití oblasti Českého nositeli laténské kultury (historickými Kelty) jako „posvátné krajiny“, tedy krajiny hospodářsky nevyužívané, ponechané v téměř nedotčené podobě přírodním „posvátným“ silám v ní se projevujícím a uctívaným, krajiny s poměrně značnou kumulací přírodních kultovních míst. Tyto uctívané božské síly se mohly optikou Keltů projevovat v podobě naprosto unikátních přírodních fenoménů jako jsou např. zbytky vulkanického kužele mající bizardní formu dvou obřích černých skalních věží dominujících celému okolí (Trosky), nebo komplexy pískovcových skalních měst propojených mezi sebou vlhkými kaňnovitými údolími. Předně ale až celý komplex různých přírodních jevů, ať již ohromujících (jako jsou Trosky, nebo skalní města), nebo naopak líbezně miniaturních (jako např. studánky s vířivým pískem v údolí Plakánku) tvořil svou harmonickou a pestrou skladbou krajinu vhodnou pro uctívání přírodních sil a styk s nimi. Ostatně tato krajina mohla být takto prociťována již od mezolitu přes všechna následující období pravěku a doby protohistorické až po ranný středověk, jak o tom svědčí množství archeologických nálezů různého stáří a kultur z lokalit Českého ráje. S jistotou lze tvrdit, že jisté výjimečnosti se krajina Českého ráje těší dodnes, jak o tom svědčí její ochrana v rámci CHKO Český ráj a její navržení mezi přírodní a kulturní památky UNESCO. O socio-kultovních aktivitách Keltů v Českém ráji svědčí archeologické nálezy ze zatím šesti lokalit (Dobšín 1, Chutnovka 1, Karlovice 1, Pařezská Lhota 1, Troskovice 1, Troskovice 2 a Srbsko 1) učiněné v kontextech zvláštních přírodních útvarů (suky bývalého vulkánu, skalní abri a jeskyně, osamělé skalní suky a skála charakteru stolové hory). Místa nálezů a ani struktura nálezového inventáře nenasvědčují, že by se na těchto místech v době laténské odehrávaly běžné sídelní aktivity. Naopak, i mnohé laténské nálezy učiněné v kontextech „zvláštních“ přírodních útvarů na lokalitách západní a střední Evropy, tedy bývalého keltského území, jsou interpretovány tamějšími archeology jako doklady kultovních praktik historických Keltů. Nezastupitelnou funkci „přírodních“ míst v náboženské geografii Keltů naznačují i poměrně hojné zmínky popisující posvátné háje, prameny a ostrovy učiněné antickými autory. Nicméně se domnívám, že hlavní a patrně nejdůležitější část keltských náboženských aktivit se odehrávala buď přímo v areálech sídlišť anebo v jejich blízkosti. Tuto domněnku podkládám např. nejnovějšími poznatky především britské archeologie o zřejmě častějším výskytu, nežli bylo donedávna usuzováno, různých (dřevěných) sakrálních staveb právě v širším sídelním areálu Keltů, nebo paralelamy způsobu využívání „přírodních“ kultovních míst v rozličných náboženských systémech. Místa kultovních praktik v kontextu zvláštních přírodních jevů a objektů chápu jako výraz uctívání přírodních transcendentních sil v prostředí jim vlastním a pro ně samotné – snad jde o výraz respektu Keltů k silám přírody bez jejich primárního „utilitárního“ využití, jež lze předokládat při náboženských aktivitách uvnitř širšího sídlištního areálu. Značnou část práce tvoří exkurz do současné religionistické hermeneutiky promýšlené jako interpretační nástroj v oblasti bádání o pravěkých náboženstvích, které se vyznačují svou obtížnou uchopitelností způsobenou značnou časovou distancí a neexistencí písemných pramenů. gionistického výzkumu pravěkých náboženství se v předložené práci zamýšlím také nad výpovědními možnostmi různých směrů v archeologii, z nichž jsem největší potenciál rozpoznal v archeologii postprocesuální, resp. behaviorální.

Abstract:

The Natural Landscape of the Czech Paradise Region as the Sacred Area of the Celts. The goal of this bachelor work is to show the posibility of exploitation of the Czech Paradise Region (north-east part of Bohemia) the bearer of laten culture (the ancient Celts) as the Sacred Area. (Therefore) the area without the agricultural usage which was retained almost in the untouched form to the divine forces (which was) expressed and venerated there. In the optics of Celts this divine forces could be expressed as absolutely unique/rare natural phenomenons – for example as the relics of vulcanic cones in bizzare form of two giant black rock towers of Trosky- the dominance over the whole scene or it could be the complex of sandstone „rock towns“ interconnected by damp canyon valleys. But only the whole complex of different natural features, whether overwhelming (such as Trosky, „rock towns“) or lovely miniature (wells with whirling sand in the Plakánek valley, etc.) framed that kind of landscape with its harmonic and varied composition conducived to venerating the natural forces and to be in touched with them. Already in the other prehistoric periods the landscape could be heart-felt like this which is supported by many archeological discoveries from the locations of the Czech Paradise Region. These days people feels in a way the rarity of this landscape too. Nomination among the natural and cultural monuments of UNESCO could be an evidence. Socio-cultish activities of Celts are supported by the archeological discoveries from six locations so far (Dobšín 1, Chutnovka 1, Karlovice 1, Pařezská Lhota 1, Troskovice 1, Troskovice 2, Srbsko 1). This discoveries were made in the contexts of strange natural formations (huge rock „towers“ in the former volcano trosek, rock abri and caves, single standing rocks and mesa shaped rock). Neither locations or stucture of discovered inventory do not indicate that it were the locations of common residential activity. Conversely many of laten discoveries made in the same contexts (of strange natural formations) in the western and central Europe, thus the former celtic territory, are interpreted as the proofs of the cultish practics of ancient Celts. Unsubstituable functions of the “natural” locations in the religious geography of Clets hint also numerous allusions of ancient authors describing the sacred groves, springs and islands. However author of this paper assumed that the main and apparently the most important part of celtic religious activities took place in the residential area or in the nearness. This suggestion author underlaid by the latest observations mainly from the british and french archeologist. They have pointed out that in those residential areas occured many wooden sacred buildings than it was supposed until recently. Second argument is the parallel way of exploation of the natural cultic locations in different religious systems. Cultic locations in the context of strange natural phenomena and objects are bz the author understand as the locations of venerating the natural transcendental forces in their own/inherent enviroment. Maybe it was the expression of the Celts respect to the forces of nature without the prime utilitarian usage. Sizeable part of this work is focused on the discursion to the contemporary hermeneutics in the Study of Religion. It is taken as an interpretative instrument in the exploration of the prehistoric religions which are hardly to gripe because of the offset/dosing interval and absence of written sources. Author also thinks of the enunciation from different approaches in the archeology in the context of the Study of Religion and its methods of exploration of the prehistoric religions. The biggest potential is recognized in the postprocessual archaeology or more precisely in the behavioral archaeology.
