Learning Tasks in Geography Education at Primary School as a Means of Developing Geographic Literacy

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá gradovanými učebními úlohami jako prostředkem rozvoje geografické gramotnosti a kognitivního myšlení žáků 1. stupně základní školy. Teoretická část se zaobírá geografickou gramotností, která představuje hlavní cíl geografického vzdělávání, a jejímiž hlavními složkami jsou znalosti, dovednosti a schopnosti potřebné k porozumění geografickým jevům a procesům. Důraz je kladen na budování geografického myšlení a kompetencí u žáků. Pozornost je věnována kurikulu 1. stupně ZŠ, v němž je geografické vzdělávání koncipováno do komplexní vzdělávací oblasti Člověk a jeho svět, s cílem naplňovat klíčové kompetence a očekávané výstupy v souvislosti s poznáváním reálného světa. Práce také zkoumá využití učebních úloh podněcující aktivizaci žáků a rozvoj jejich kognitivního myšlení. Dále se zabývá potřebou uplatňovat principy diferenciace a individualizace ve výuce, které lze naplňovat s využitím gradovaných geografických úloh. V praktické části byl pro tento účel vytvořen soubor geografických učebních úloh s gradovanou náročností, jehož východiskem je Bloomova taxonomie. Empirický výzkum přinesl zjištění, že žáci volí učební úlohy jen na nejnižší kognitivní úrovni, tedy přesně takové úlohy, které jsou nejvíce nabízeny učebnicemi a na které jsou z toho důvodu žáci také nejvíce zvyklí. Závěry výzkumu reflektují vysokou variabilitu výsledků žáků. Zjištění tak zdůrazňují potřebu aplikace kognitivně náročnějších učebních úloh a principů individualizace a diferenciace do výuky. Výzkumné šetření však probíhalo pouze na malém výzkumném vzorku, proto nelze v žádném případě závěrečná tvrzení nijak zobecňovat.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with graded learning tasks as a means of developing geographic literacy and cognitive thinking in primary school pupils. The theoretical part deals with geographic literacy, which is the main goal of geographic education, and its main components are the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to understand geographical phenomena and processes. The emphasis is on building pupils' geographical thinking and competences. Attention is paid to the curriculum of the first stage of primary school, in which geographical education is conceived in the complex educational area Člověk a jeho svět (Man and his world), with the aim of fulfilling the key competences and expected outcomes in relation to knowledge of the real world. The thesis also explores the use of learning tasks to stimulate pupils' activation and the development of their cognitive thinking. Furthermore, it addresses the need to apply the principles of differentiation and individualization in teaching, which can be fulfilled with the use of graded geographical tasks. In the practical part, a set of geographic learning tasks with graded difficulty was created for this purpose, based on Bloom's taxonomy. Empirical research has yielded the finding that students choose learning tasks only at the lowest cognitive level, i.e., exactly those tasks that are most often offered by textbooks and to which they are therefore accustomed. The research findings reflect the high variability in pupils' performance. Thus, the findings highlight the need to apply more cognitively demanding learning tasks and the principles of individualization and differentiation to teaching. However, the research investigation was only conducted on a small research sample, so the concluding statements cannot be generalized in any way.
