Status of Muslim Women in the Countries Affected by Arab Spring - Case Study

Abstract:

Egypt byl po Tunisku další zemí, ve které došlo na přelomu let 2010 a 2011 k rozsáhlým demonstracím a svržení dosavadní vládnoucí elity. K moci se nejprve dostala Nejvyšší rada ozbrojených sil a později v porevolučních volbách Muslimské bratrstvo. Po lednové revoluci byla suspendována původní ústava a v březnu 2011 schválena provizorní ústava, která ale ženám zaručovala méně práv než ta původní. Poté, co byl v zemi v roce 2012 zvolen nový prezident, Muhammad Mursí, byla schválena i nová ústava. Ta ovšem ještě více omezila práva žen. Obdobný vývoj bylo možno sledovat i v reálném životě žen, kde během revoluce a i po ní dochází k neustálé deterioraci. Problémem ženských práv v Egyptě se již zabývá jak OSN, tak neziskové organizace.

Abstract:

Following Tunisia, there were numerous demonstrations in Egypt at the end of 2010 and beginning 2011 which resulted in toppling the existing political elite. Firstly, The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces took the office and after the post-revolutionary elections they were replaced by the Muslim Brotherhood. After the revolution in January the former constitution was suspended and in March 2011 the interim constitution was approved. However, it granted less rights to women then the previous one. After electing a new president, Muhammad Morsi, the new constitution was approved as well. This third constitution restricted the women's rights even more then the interim one. It was possible to observe the similar tendency in a real life of Egyptian women when during and after the revolution their status has been worsening. United Nations and local NGOs express deep concern for this situation.
