Práce se nejdříve zabývá vývojem lesů a zastoupení jednotlivých druhů dřevin v lesích. Následně přibližuje kompozitní materiály, konstrukční dřevěné prvky, alternativní zdroje pak už se zabývá hlavním tématem BSH, jeho historií, výrobou, použitím a mechanickými vlastnostmi.
