Music of the Franciscan Monastery in Pilsen in the 17th and 18th centuries focusing on the polyphonic repertoire

Abstract:

Hudební provoz plzeňského františkánského konventu v pobělohorském období stál dosud mimo zájem muzikologů. Základem textu práce je analýza přednedávnem objevené sbírky františkánských hudebnin z konce 17. a první poloviny 18. století doplněná o informace z centrálních pramenů české františkánské provincie. V centru pozornosti bude zejména spektrum v pramenech zastoupených žánrů liturgické hudby, dále datace jednotlivých opisů včetně rozboru hudebně stylového vývoje opisovaného repertoáru a specifikace jednotlivých skladatelských jmen. Do textu jsou zahrnuty také hudebně provozní aspekty plzeňského františkánského figurálního kůru, zejména velikost zdejšího ansámblu, jeho hudebně interpretační potenciál a v neposlední řadě využití varhan během liturgických obřadů v konventním kostele Nanebevzetí Panny Marie v Plzni.

Abstract:

Musical performing practice of Pilsner Franciscan convent in the period after 1620 stood up to now outside the interest of the musicological community. The ground of the work is to analyze a not long ago discovered Franciscan music collection from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, supplemented by information from central sources of Czech Franciscan Province. The work focuses mainly in the range of the represented liturgical music genres, also dating single copies of note-sheet including analysis of musical style and repertoire development and discloses specifications of individual composers’ names. The text also contains music and performing aspects of Pilsner Franciscan figural choir, especially the size of the local ensemble, the musical interpretive potential and ultimately the use of the organ during liturgical celebrations in the Convent Church of the Virgin Mary Assumption in Pilsen.
