Using Competitive Intelligence methods to get competitive advantage in game industry

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá návrhem systému Competitive Intelligence pro zvýšení konkurenceschopnosti vybrané společnosti zabývající se vývojem videoher. Cílem této práce je navrhnout řešení pro aktivní monitorování konkurence prostřednictvím využívání optimálních informačních zdrojů a nástrojů. V práci je nejprve představena problematika Competitive Intelligence. V další části práce je charakterizováno podnikatelské prostředí a je představena vybraná společnost a její konkurenti, kteří v daném prostředí působí. Dále jsou pomocí myšlenkové mapy popsány Key Intelligence Topics a Key Information Questions. Nakonec je proveden návrh systému Competitive Intelligence, který se skládá z navržení informačních zdrojů a nástrojů, prostřednictvím kterých je možné monitorovat konkurenční prostředí firmy, dále pak z určení pracovníků, kteří zabezpečí provoz systému Competitive Intelligence, vymezení jejich kompetencí a navržení konkrétních využití informačních zdrojů, které zodpoví definované KIQ. V poslední části práce je provedeno ověření navrženého řešení. Předpokládaným přínosem práce pro firmy zabývající se vývojem videoher spočívá v možnosti sledovat, v jakém stavu se zrovna nachází konkurence a jak si společnost oproti ní stojí. Vedení firmy bude mít k dispozici veškeré informace o konkurenci a možnost včasně na ně zareagovat.

Abstract:

This Master’s Thesis deals with the design of Competitive Intelligence system for increasing the competitiveness of the selected company involved in the development of video games. The aim of this thesis is to design solution for active monitoring of competition through the use of optimal information resources and tools. First, Competitive Intelligence is introduced in this thesis. The next part of this thesis describes the business environment and introduces the selected company and its competitors, who operate in the given environment. In addition, Key Intelligence Topics and Key Information Questions are described using the mind map. In the end, the Competitive Intelligence system is designed and consists of designing information sources and tools for monitoring the competitive environment of the company, and also it consists of identifying the staff which ensure the operation of the Competitive Intelligence system, and defining their competencies and designing the specific use of information resources, which responds to the defined KIQ. In the last part of the thesis the verification of the proposed solution is performed. The anticipated benefit of the thesis for video game developers lies in the ability to track the situation of competition and how the company stands against it. The company's management will have all the information about the competition and the opportunity to respond to them in time.
