The impacts of Cirkus Paciento´s program on treatment of patients with mental illness

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá projektem Cirkus Paciento v psychiatrických léčebnách a tím, jaké jsou jeho dopady na proces léčby pacientů léčeben. Na projekt se zaměřuji z teoretické roviny prostřednictvím sociálního cirkusu neboli spojení cirkusových aktivit a cílů sociální práce. Tento koncept je následně obohacen o další teoretické podněty uplatňované v projektu Cirkus Paciento. Dále se v práci věnuji popisu praktického fungování projektu v psychiatrických léčebnách, který je získán na základě vlastního zúčastněného pozorování. Práce obsahuje také výzkum prostřednictvím rozhovorů s pacienty a personálem, jejichž prostřednictvím analyzuji konkrétní přínosy, které pacienti z projektu mají, a potvrzuji teoretické předpoklady projektu jakožto sociálního cirkusu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with a project called Circus Paciento in mental hospitals and with its impacts on process of medical treatment of patients in these hospitals. I look at the project from theoretical perspective of social circus that is the perspective of connection between circus activities and aims of social work. This concept is moreover enriched with other theoretical incentives used in Circus Paciento project. Furthermore, I describe the practical running of the project in mental hospitals which is based on my direct observation. Part of the thesis is a research using in-depth interviews with patients and employees. These interviews give us a notion on what are the concrete benefits of patients attending the project and confirm theoretical requirements of the project as social circus.
