Methods for computation of the reproduction number for infectious diseases

Abstract:

Covid-19 se poslední 3 roky stal nedílnou součástí našeho života. Ve spojitosti s tímto infekčním onemocněním je používán pojem reprodukční číslo, který je klíčo-vý při studiu dynamiky infekčního onemocnění. Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na vybrané metody výpočtu tohoto čísla, kterými jsou: zjednodušený výpočet reprodukčního čísla, metoda dle Cori, metoda dle Wallingy a Teunise a metoda Epi-now. V teoretické části je popsána problematika výpočtu reprodukčního čísla společ-ně s parametry ovlivňujícími odhady tohoto čísla. V praktické části jsou jednotlivé metody aplikovány na reálný datový soubor obsahující informace o denních počtech infikovaných osob dle hlášení krajských hygienických stanic pro Českou republiku v roce 2021. Výsledkem práce je posouzení změn v odhadech reprodukčního čísla jednotlivých metod při použití různých hodnot vstupních parametrů. Nakonec jsou mezi sebou jednotlivé metody porovnány z hlediska podobnosti získaných odhadů.

Abstract:

Covid-19 has become an integral part of our lives for the last 3 years. In connection with this infectious disease, the term reproductive number is used, which is the key to study of the dynamics of an infectious disease. This bachelor thesis is focused on selected methods of calculation of this number, which are: simplified calculation reproduction number, Cori method, Wallingy and Teunis method and Epinow met-hod. The theoretical part describes the issue of calculating the reproduction number together with the parameters influencing the estimates of this number. In the practi-cal part, the individual metods are applied to a real data file containing information about daily numbers infected persons according to the reports of regional hygiene stations for the Czech Republic in 2021. The result of the thesis is the assessment of changes in the estimates of the reproduction number of individual methods when using different values of input parameters. Finally, the individual methods are compared with each other in terms of the similarity of the estimates obtained.
