Abstract:

Holandská nemoc je jedním z ekonomických transmisních mechanismů teorie prokletí přírodních zdrojů. Teorie holandské nemoci naznačuje, že země s bohatými nerostnými zdroji vykazují nižší tempo ekonomického růstu v průběhu delšího časového období. Holandská nemoc vysvětluje ekonomický aspekt této teorie, přičemž její mechanismus funguje následovně. Po expanzi těžebního sektoru dochází k reálné apreciaci směnného kurzu, což je následováno růstem reálných mezd. Tyto změny pak způsobují migraci pracovních sil a vedou k deindustrializaci, což má za následek, že se ekonomika stává závislou na expandujícím sektoru. Cílem této práce je analyzovat vliv holandské nemoci na ekonomickou prosperitu zvolených zemí, tedy Kanady a Ruské federace, v letech 2000-2022 a zjistit, zda dané země holandskou nemocí skutečně trpí. V teoretické části jsou představeny a vysvětleny pojmy, které se úzce pojí s problematikou holandské nemoci a jsou zde uvedeny též jednotlivé symptomy holandské nemoci. Na základě těchto symptomů je v praktické části následně zkoumána přítomnost holandské nemoci ve vybraných zemích. V průběhu sledovaného období je možné pozorovat všechny příznaky holandské nemoci v Ruské federaci a částečně lze přítomnost tohoto fenoménu potvrdit i na případu Kanady.

Abstract:

Dutch disease is one of the economic transmission mechanisms of the natural resource curse theory. This theory suggests that countries with abundant mineral resources show a lower rate of economic growth over a longer period of time. The Dutch disease explains the economic aspect of this theory, the mechanism of which works as follows. After the expansion of the mining sector, there is a real appreciation of the exchange rate, which is followed by an increase in real wages. These changes then cause labor migration and lead to deindustrialization, resulting in the economy becoming dependent on an expanding sector. The aim of this work is to analyze the impact of the Dutch disease on the economic prosperity of the selected countries, Canada and the Russian Federation, in the years 2000-2022 and to find out whether the given countries really suffer from the Dutch disease. In the theoretical part, terms that are closely related to the issue of Dutch disease are introduced and explained, and individual symptoms of Dutch disease are also presented here. Based on these symptoms, the presence of Dutch disease in selected countries is subsequently investigated in the practical part. During the monitored period, we can observe all the symptoms of the Dutch disease in the Russian Federation, and the presence of this phenomenon can be partially confirmed in the case of Canada.
