Abstract:

Tato práce se snaží zachytit vliv rozporuplného vztahu dobové filozofie a genderového uspořádání britské společnosti 18. století v literatuře psané ženami. Koncept morálního citu, který jako základ morálního citu určoval propojení emocionality a racionality, podkopával tradiční definice genderu. Společnost 18. století ale fungovala na bázi vymezení a oddělení genderových rolí. Vzniklý konflikt se pak projevoval ve všech složkách společenského života. Tato práce se konkrétně zabývá jeho dopadem na ženy na literární scéně a způsoby, jakými ženské spisovatelky dané skutečnosti reflektovaly ve své práci.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the impact the ambiguous relationship between the eighteenth-century philosophy and gender definitions had on literature written by women. The concept of moral sentiment placed in the heart of moral distinction both rationality and emotionality: a fusion which undermined the gender archetypes. Yet the eighteenth-century society perceived the roles of men and women as clearly separated. This work traces the influence of the arising tension on women on literary scene and the ways in which they reflected upon it in their work.
