Impact of maternity leave on gender inequality in the labor market

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem mateřství na genderové nerovnosti na trhu práce. Práce se věnuje genderové diskriminaci a ochraně žen v těhotenství a mateřství v pracovněprávních vztazích z hlediska českého právního řádu a právních předpisů Evropské unie. V protikladu k formální rovnosti je postavena kapitola věnující se mezipohlavní dělbě práce a péči o děti v českých domácnostech, která je dále rozvedena v historickém vývoji a doplněna o základní teoretické přístupy dělby práce v rodinách. V druhé části práce je cílem popsat nástroje slaďování mateřství a práce v podobě možností institucionální péče o děti mladších tří let, úpravy pracovní doby zahrnující zejména kritický pohled na částečný úvazek. Jako poslední je uvedena participace českých otců jako nástroj nastolení spravedlnosti na trhu práce. Cílem práce je charakterizovat danou problematiku v kontextu ČR, případně ji také komparovat s jinými zeměmi. Záměrem autorčiny práce je zjistit, zdali je trh práce pro ženy s malými dětmi přístupný. Téma je velmi aktuální a představuje celospolečenský problém.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis examines the impact of maternity leave on gender inequality in the labor market. The thesis focuses on gender discrimination and the protection of women during pregnancy and maternity in employment relations from the point of view of Czech legislation and the legal regulations of the European Union. In contrast to formal equality, there is a chapter dedicated to the gender division of labor and childcare in Czech households, which is further elaborated on in historical development and supplemented with basic theoretical approaches to the division of labor in families. In the second part of the thesis, tools for reconciling motherhood and work are described in the form of institutional care options for children under the age of three, adjustments to working hours including part-time work, and lastly, the participation of Czech fathers included as a tool for establishing justice in the labor market. The thesis aims to characterize the issue in the context of the Czech Republic and to compare it with foreign countries. The purpose of the author's work is to determine whether the labor market is accessible to women with small children. The topic is of wider social significance.
