Situational analysis of the institutionalization of the peer worker role in the drug user service system

Abstract:

Cílem dizertační práce je analyzovat konstrukce vzorů jednání vznikajících v rámci institucionalizace role peer pracovníka v systému péče o uživatele drog v ČR za účelem porozumění procesu institucionalizace této nově vznikající profese v konkrétním systému. Zúčastnění aktéři výzkumu jsou peer pracovníci, pomáhající pracovníci a vyšší management služeb sociální péče. Konceptuální rámce se opírá o teorii institucionalizace Bergera a Luckmanna (1999) a fáze institucionalizace dle De Swaana (1990). Analýza dat se metodologicky opírá o Situační analýzu (SA) dle Adele Clarke a pro detailní porozumění situaci na makro, mezo a mikro úrovni využívá kartografické nástroje, které SA nabízí. Výzkumnou část uzavírá analýza konstrukcí nových vzorů jednání role peer pracovníka, vycházejících ze dvou stěžejních paradigmat, které se v rámci služeb sociální práce objevují a zásadním způsobem tyto vzory ovlivňují. V závěru diskuze jsou formulovány doporučení pro praxi sociálních služeb a sociální práce. Konkrétně se jedná o podporu principu spoluvytváření, apel na vzdělávání k participaci a podpora destigmatizace lidí se zkušeností s užíváním drog a závislostí.

Abstract:

The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the construction of patterns of behavior emerging within the institutionalisation of the role of peer worker in the system of care for drug users in the Czech Republic in order to understand the process of institutionalisation of this newly emerging profession in a specific system. The stakeholders of the research are peer workers, helping workers and senior management of social care services. The conceptual framework is based on Berger and Luckmann's (1999) theory of institutionalisation and De Swaan's (1990) stages of institutionalisation. Methodologically, the data analysis draws on Situation Analysis (SA) according to Adele Clarke and uses the cartographic tools offered by SA to gain a detailed understanding of the situation at macro, meso and micro levels. The research section concludes with an analysis of the construction of new patterns of peer worker role behavior, based on two key paradigms that are emerging within social work services and fundamentally influencing these patterns. The discussion concludes with recommendations for social services and social work practice. Specifically, these include the promotion of the principle of co-creation, an appeal for education for participation, and finally supporting the destigmatization of people with experience of drug use and addiction.
