Psychosomatic workload of nursing staff in institutional care of the elderly

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit psychosomatickou zátěž u ošetřovatelského personálu pracujícího v institucionální péči o seniory, a jaké determinanty ji ovlivňují. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 95 respondentů. Výzkumné šetření probíhalo v období březen - duben 2016. Pro získání dat byl použit Symptomatologický Inventář a Meisterův dotazník doplněný o demografické údaje. Pro popis dat byla použita popisná statistika, k analýze dat byly použity statistické testy na hladině významnosti 5 %, např. Wilcoxonův pořadový test pro dva výběry, Kruskal-Wallisův test pro více výběrů, závislost byla hodnocena Spermanovým korelačním koeficientem. Pro grafické znázornění byly použity boxové grafy. Výsledky: Na základě analýzy dat byl zjištěn výsledný stupeň psychické zátěže dle Meisterova dotazníku. U respondentů obou zařízení byla prokázána psychická zátěž 1. stupně, při které není pravděpodobné ovlivnění zdraví, subjektivního stavu a výkonnosti, avšak je nutné přihlížet k aktuálním podmínkám na pracovišti. Při hodnocení somatických a psychických stesků Symptomatologického inventáře byl vyšší výskyt somatických obtíží u respondentů pracujících v Domově se zvláštním režimem. Závěr: Výsledky výzkumného šetření u ošetřovatelského personálu obou zařízení sociálních služeb neprokázaly druhý a ani třetí stupeň zátěže, ani významných hodnot somatických či psychických stesků. Nicméně je nutné stále se snažit o vytváření vhodného pracovního prostředí s dostatečným počtem personálu, neopomínat detekci pracovní zátěže a zaměřovat se na její prevenci. Právě tak je důležité, aby ošetřovatelský personál aktivně pečoval o své vlastní psychické a fyzické zdraví vhodnou životosprávou, pohybem a duševní hygienou.

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of this research was to determine the psychosomatic workload of nursing staff working in institutional care for the elderly and what kind of determinants affect it. Methods: The sample consisted of 95 respondents. The research survey covered the period from March to April 2016. Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology and Meister questionnaire with demographics information were used to obtain data. Descriptive statistics have been utilized for data description and statistics tests with significance level of 5% were done for data analysis, e.g. Wilcoxon two sample paired signed-rank test, Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance for multiple selections. Dependency was evaluated by Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Graphs are represented by box plots. Results: Resultant degree of mental load according to Meister questionnaire was found based on analysis of the data. Respondents of both facilities have been demonstrated mental load of 1st stage, which is most likely not affecting the health status and subjective performance, but it is necessary to take into account the current conditions in the workplace. When evaluating somatic and psychic longings of the Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology it was found higher incidence of somatic symptoms among respondents working in special regime homes. Conclusion: The research results of nursing staff in both social service facilities have not shown the second and even third tier of load or significant values of somatic and psychic longings. However you must always try to create a good working environment with a sufficient number of staff, does not forget to detect workload and focus on its prevention. It is equally important that nursing staff are actively taking care of their own mental and physical health, exercise and mental hygiene.
