A case study focused on the gender influences in the work of a female sports journalist at television sports department

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá praktikováním profese sportovní novinářky v redakci sportu České televize a možnými vlivy genderu na tuto profesi. Výzkumná část práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jak gender vstupuje do praktikování profese sportovní novinářky v redakci sportu České televize. Teoretická část diplomové práce teoreticky vymezuje důležité koncepty feministických mediálních kritik, definuje mediální organizaci a mediální rutiny uvnitř těchto organizací. Zaměřili jsme se na segregaci práce na základě genderu a s tím spojenou diskriminací, jejíž projevy by bylo možné sledovat také v dané redakci. Na základě teorie vymezíme profesi novináře a přiblížíme také specifika profese sportovního novinářství. V metodické části představíme design výzkumu, technicky sběru dat i způsob jejich analýzy. Metodická část nabízí také kritickou reflexi výzkumu a představuje její slabé stránky. V empirické části dojde k vyhodnocení dat z devíti hloubkových rozhovorů se sportovními novináři sportovní redakce ČT.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the practice of the profession of sports journalist in the sport’s newsroom of Czech Television and the potential impact of gender on this profession. The research part of the work aims to find out how gender enters into the practice of the profession of sports journalist in the sport’s newsroom of Czech Television. The theoretical part defines important theoretical concepts of feminist media critic, defines a media organization and media routines within these organizations. We focused on the segregation of labor based on gender and discrimination associated therewith, whose manifestations could also be monitored in the newsroom. Based on the theory we define the profession of journalists and closer also the specifics of the profession of sports journalism. In the methodological part we will present the research design, data collection and technical method of analysis. Methodological part offers a critical reflection of research and presents its weaknesses. In the empirical part will evaluate the data from nine in-depth interviews with sports journalists from sports department of Czech TV.
