Stress Coping Strategies and Achievement Motivation of rally Drivers and Co-Drivers.

Abstract:

Primárním cílem diplomové práce bylo zmapovat osobnostní charakteristiky, copingové strategie a výkonovou motivaci jezdců a spolujezdců rally. Ve výzkumu jsme se dále zaměřili na vztahy mezi těmito psychologickými konstrukty. Do studie bylo zapojeno 32 jezdců a 36 spolujezdců rally, kteří se věnují tomuto sportu v rámci nejvyšší české soutěže Mistrovství České republiky v rally. Realizace sběru dat proběhla prostřednictvím jednorázového dotazníkového šetření skládající se z českých verzí dotazníků NEO pětifaktorový osobnostní inventář (NEO – FFI), Strategie zvládání stresu (SVF 78) a Dotazník motivace k výkonu (LMI). Výzkum odhalil u výzkumného vzorku signifikantně nižší výsledky oproti české populaci v dimenzi Neuroticismus. Signifikantní rozdíly mezi jezdci a spolujezdci rally pak byly nalezeny na škálách Kontrola reakcí, Pozitivní sebeinstrukce (SVF 78), Vytrvalost, Flow a Hrdost na výkon (LMI), kde vyšších skórů dosahovali jezdci rally. Oproti tomu spolujezdci rally skórovali výše na škálách Svědomitost (NEO – FFI), Kontrola situace (SVF 78), Flexibilita a Ochota učit se (LMI). I přes nevyvážené zastoupení mužů a žen byl ve výzkumu identifikován trend vlivu pohlaví, a to v dimenzi Potřeba sociální opory (SVF 78) a Sebekontrola (LMI). Z výsledků dále vyplývá, že existuje různě těsný vztah mezi některými osobnostními charakteristikami, copingovými strategiemi a výkonovou motivací. Výsledky výzkumu mohou sloužit jako podklad pro další výzkumnou činnost v rámci tohoto sportovního odvětví a následně pro samotné týmy na vrcholové úrovni.

Abstract:

The main aim of the diploma thesis was to map personality traits, coping strategies and achievement motivation of rally drivers and co-drivers. Furthermore, we focused on relationships between these psychological constructs. The research sample included 32 rally drivers and 36 rally co-drivers, who devote to this sport at the highest level possible in the Czech Republic (Czech Rally Championship). The collection of the data was realized through a one-time questionnaire survey, which consisted of the Czech version NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO – FFI), Stress Coping Style Questionnaire (SVF 78) and Achievement Motivation Inventory (AMI). The research unrevealed significant differences between the study sample and Czech population in the Neuroticism dimension. Significant differences were identified between rally drivers and rally co-drivers on the scales for Reaction Control, Positive Self-Instruction (SVF 78), Persistence, Flow and Pride in Productivity (AMI), where rally driver achieved higher score. By way on contrast, rally co-drivers scored higher on the scales for Conscientiousness (NEO – FFI), Situation Control (SVF 78), Flexibility and Eagerness to Learn (AMI). Despite an unequal representation of men and women in the studied sample, trends of gender influence were identified in the dimensions of Need for Social Support (SVF 78) and Self-Control (AMI). The results show diverse tight relationships between some personality traits, coping strategies and achievement motivation. The results of this study may provide a base for further research in the field of rally sport, and subsequently be employed by top level rally teams.
