The aim of this master's thesis is to introduce fundamental concepts of segmentation with examples in the context of skull stripping T1-weighted MRI images of the adult's head, to summarize most commonly employed modern brain extraction methods and to implement chosen concepts in the R language and apply them to the real data. Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je uviesť základné koncepty segmentácie s príkladmi v kontexte orezávania T1-vážených MRI snímkov hlavy dospelého človeka, sumarizovať zaužívané moderné metódy extrakcie mozgu a následne vybrané koncepty implementovať v jazyku R a aplikovať na reálne dáta.
