The unemployment rate according to the election results in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou vztahu míry nezaměstnanosti a volebních výsledků v České republice a na Slovensku a komparací této závislosti mezi jednotlivými zeměmi. Data o výši obecné míry nezaměstnanosti a voličských preferencích obyvatel v jednotlivých krajích jsou analyzována pomocí speciálního případu obecného lineárního modelu, jímž je analýza rozptylu. Z výsledků sestrojeného statistického modelu je patrné, že v České republice se potvrdila hypotéza, že je obecná míra nezaměstnanosti vyšší v krajích, kde ve volbách do Poslanecké sněmovny České republiky převažují vítězství levicově orientovaných politických stran. U Slovenské republiky se tato hypotéza nepotvrdila, z toho důvodu, že za sledované období nebyla u žádného kraje prokázána převaha výher levicově orientovaných stran ve volbách do Národní rady Slovenské republiky. Z výsledků analýz jednotlivých zemí vyplývá, že mezi jednotlivými zeměmi neexistuje shoda ve vývoji této závislosti.

Abstract:

The objective of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the relationship between unemployment rate and the election results in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic and to compare this relationship between observed countries. The data regarding the general unemployment rates and voters' preferences in particular regions are analysed by analysis of variance, which is a special case of a general linear model. The results of the model prove that the hypothesis of a higher unemployment rate in regions where left-wing political parties dominate in parliamentary election is valid in the case of the Czech Republic. The same hypothesis turns out to be false in the case of the Slovak Republic, because there was no recorded dominance of left-wing parties in Slovak parliamentary election in the observed period. The results of the both analyses show that there is no match for this relationship in both countries.
