Regional Disparities at the Labour Market in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku regionálních disparit, jejichž usměrňování je jedním z ústředních, dlouhodobých a stále aktuálních cílů regionální politiky EU. Cílem práce je posoudit vývoj regionálních disparit na trhu práce a identifikovat společné i specifické rozvojové vzorce. Práce teoreticky vymezuje regionální rozvoj i regionální politiku, a to jak na úrovni České republiky, tak na evropské úrovni. Dále jsou teoreticky vymezeny pojmy regionální disparita a trh práce. Analýza regionálních disparit je provedena na úrovni samosprávných krajů České republiky za pomocí přístupů beta-konvergence a sigma-konvergence. Vývoj regionálních disparit je zkoumán pomocí čtyř indikátorů, a to pomocí míry ekonomické aktivity, průměrné hrubé mzdy, počtu uchazečů na jedno pracovní místo a podílu nezaměstnaných osob. Práce prokázala, jak složitá tato problematika ve skutečnosti je, neboť provedená analýza poukazuje na odlišnost výsledků v závislosti na aplikovaném přístupu. Vždy alespoň jeden z přístupů identifikoval významný trend, ale druhý přístup trend ani v jednom případě nepotvrdil.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the issue of regional disparities, the management of which is one of the main, long-term and still current objectives of EU regional policy. The aim of the thesis is to assess the development of regional disparities in the labour market and identify common and specific development patterns. The work defines theoretically regional development and regional policy, both at the level of the Czech Republic and at the European level. Furthermore, there are defined theoretically concepts of regional disparity and labour market. The analysis of regional disparities is carried out at the level of self-governing regions of the Czech Republic using beta-convergence and sigma-convergence approaches. The development of regional disparities is examined using four indicators, namely the economic activity rate, average gross wages, the number of jobseekers per job and the share of unemployed persons. The work has demonstrated how complex this issue really is, as the analysis carried out shows that the results vary depending on the approach applied. At least one of the approaches always identified a significant trend but the other approach did not confirm the trend in either case.
